Yes it may be more expensive but worth it in the long run. Do the research. Why ruin a big appliance investment,and more importantly your heath just to save $ upfront.

When we finally did, it made quite a difference. Water taste so much better. We will keep one on hand so when it's time to replace will have it ready

Best Buy was more than willing to price match the Amazon.com price for this filter, which is much less expensive than the Best Buy price. No issues with the installation nor any issue since it was installed.

Walked into Best Buy, told the salesperson what kind of fridge we had, we had the right filter in our hands in less than a minute! It works perfect and keeps our ice and water tasty.

We don't have any way of knowing if everything would work as well without replacing the filter but don't think it's worth the chance; however, feel it is a little pricey for something they say you HAVE to replace.
