No empty areas as people have stated when ordering from other places. I did notice that the item number is a little different than the one called for but I looked at the bottom which is slightly squared off and that's the one I needed. It fits perfectly. I like the fact the Samsung filters do filter out more contaminants than say LG or even Whirlpool. One of the reasons I chose Samsung for my refrigerator purchase!

I can tell the difference with this filter compared to the B brand one. Less chemical-i taste or even none to me. Tasteless is how water should be.
