Taking out the old one was a breeze, lining up the new one, not so easy. I do think they can last longer than they claim. Saw no reason to change it out after only 6 months, we don't use the ice of water feature that much. Probably on a timer and not (as a used by amount) in the system.

It can get a tiny bit tricky to find the right groove when installing. Nothing too crazy. My concern with these is the wastefulness once throwing the fiter away. Unsure if these are recyclable or not but it feels like a waste either way.
