Made two trips (40 miles one way) to get this (Web said it was in stock), both times shelf was empty but second-time Husband complained about not being able to contact the store to check stock (phone number sent him to a call center who can only check a computer). A Clerk was able to find one (did she rob a new refrigerator) somewhere in the store?

Always go with the originals so you know what you are getting. By far the two pack is most economical and this is the best way to buy these - delivered to your door. You can even do a subscription so you don't ever run out as they last roughly 6 months at a time.

You can trust it since it's made by the manufacturer. Compared to the off brand filters, this lasts a long time. You end up spending more but know that you get the quality along with the higher price. I stopped buying the generic filter.
