If you're not sure how, check the short online videos. When removing our old one, the new one would not go in all the way. Looking inside the filter area, there's a middle section that looked to be off center. We had to very firmly but gently push the new filter and it finally connected. The 4-star rating is due to this item being so expensive for what it is. Still, I'd recommend this Samsung filter over a generic one.
