I hardly ever use either, so I'm always surprised how quickly the filter light comes on. Last time, I figured the filter light was just a ploy to get me to replace the filter, but not long after the light came on, I noticed visible mineral deposits in my melted ice. So, I gave in and replaced it. I've taken to leaving the ice maker off most of the time; hopefully that helps.

About the water filter in your Samsung Refrigerator.
Replacing the water filter in your fridge helps keep your water tasting fresh and helps to prevent odors. Your Family Hub panel will notify you when it’s time to change it, which is about every 6 months. First make sure you purchase a genuine Samsung filter made specifically for your fridge model. You can find replacements on Samsung.com. When you’re ready to replace it, turn off the water line to the fridge, drain the waterline by running the dispenser, and then turn the old filter counterclockwise to pull it out. After you insert the new filter, turn it clockwise to lock it in place, and then turn your water valve back on. All that’s left is to run the water for a few minutes to flush it and reset the replace filter alert on your fridge.

Works but is expensive

I normally buy their in-house brand but they were out of stock. The sales person was accommodating and found one of the Samsung filters in the back room. Like many items, the supply was low on filters. I would recommend this replacement filter only if others, less expensive filter are not available.
