Often goes on sale over at Newegg, and I'll often buy them online, but due to the immediate nature of this purchase, (repairing a friend's computer, I was super happy to order it online, and pick it up at BestBuy within an hour!

Not so good utilities and software

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this sata WD Blue SSD drive to replace a hard drive on an older desktop. I previously purchased well known Korean brand sata SSDs to upgrade computers and to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 - which went amazingly smooth. I was going to purchase the same drive, but the price had risen and the WD SSD drive was thirty percent less than the current price of the other drive. In contrast to the painless SSD upgrade with with the well known Korean brand drive, when using the manufacturer's migration software, the Western Digital's software did not work. There was no obvious instructions on the WD package or in the package. I did a internet search for WD SSD software which brought me to list of backup software and utilites. I did not see a specific migration tool, but listed was a free WD version of Acronis backup and in the description says it cloned disks. So I went a head and installed it. The computer had already been upgraded to Windows 10. I left the old hard drive in the computer and pulled the sata and power cables from the DVD drive and plugged them into the WD SSD. After the computer booted, I checked Disk Management and it saw the WD SSD. I tried to run Acronis, but a message popped up and said that I needed a qualifying product to be installed. I thought that was strange, I did have a qualifying product installed. I then downloaded and installed the WD SSD Dashboard and rebooted. I ran the Dashboard and it found the drive and it said it had the latest firmware. I closed the dashboard and tried running Acronis and I got the same message that I needed a qualifying product. I opened up the dashboard and tried Acronis again and I was able to get into it. After I setup the drive to clone and hit the button to start, Acronis just disappeared - maybe it was cloning in the background - nope it crashed. I gave up on the WD Acronis and used another free cloning program which worked fine. After I removed the hard drive and just had the WD SSD drive in the computer, Acronis did open without problems but I uninstalled it because I didn't need it anymore. This was my first WD SSD setup and I wasted over an hour trying to figure out how clone my hard drive to it. The first time that I installed an SSD from the other well known Korean SSD manufacturer, it took me less that 10 minutes to start the cloning process. Also most of WD software is dated looking and clunky. The WD SSD Dashboard asks for administrative permissions each time you run it. The well known Korean brand's software is top-of-the-line feel, modern, intuitive and it gets the job done. The WD software... not so.
