The extra USB ports are extremely beneficial when you have other hardware that need access to power.

I have 4 WD_Black external USB drives. 3 are 5TB and average 30-35MB/s. This one at 8TB averages 3-4 MB/s. It's literally 1/10th the speed of the other drives, formatted the same (APFS, tried NTFS and exFAT too just in case). Tried it on 5 different computers just in case. Just avoid.
