WD Easystore Drives are the best options out there

I've had several WD External drives, ranging from 1TB now up to the 12TB External model. Overall these drives are always top notch in terms of quality as well as longevity. Unboxing is quick and painless with the drive, a USB 3.0 Cable, the Adapter, and the standard guides as well as WD software which can be great for use in setting up backup and managing multiple external drives in your system. The drives are formatted NTFS so immediately register and work with modern Windows operating systems, however a driver download may be necessary to operate with a MacOS system but once installed it will operate flawlessly. Once plugged in you can operate with the drive as the standard single partition or you can reformat and break this drive up into multiple partitions as well. Drive is quiet both during idle and read/write operations and the case looks clean and discrete on the shelf without a lot of distracting lights on the front. Originally I had intended to purchase this and a 10TB to shuck and use the drives internally but I'm quite happy with the enclosure both in form and function so I've decided to leave it intact and use it for its intended purpose.

It works how it should, ton of storage and not too slow. It is an external drive so it's slower than a standard drive. It's not super loud, i can hear it accessing but it's not obnoxious. Haven't noticed excessive heat even after installing a 200gb game.

Especially when on sale, is a great price for large-capacity drives. Easy to remove the bare drive for use in a NAS or server. I do recommend testing the drive before loading it with data or shucking, using something like WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics (DLG) utility. One of the two drives I ordered arrived with a loose part inside the enclosure (makes a rattling noise), so I do plan to return that one. Hoping for another sale on these drives on Black Friday :)

You can't beat the price for the size. I get it on sale and see it's more expensive now, so be aware of upcoming sales for sure. It's a decent quality HDD. I honestly wish SSD's would come down in price for a good sized one, but that'll be years and years away apparently. This will hold a ton of data. I got rid of a gaming PC for a Mac Mini and am using this for all of the music, movies and everything imaginable.

This was purchased to supplement a 4 TB Easy Store previously purchased. I required additional storage for photo & video files and the 4 TB did not have enough space. I was able to transfer all of my photo and video files to this drive and in addition I was able to make a mirror image of my C Drive with room to spare. I have used WD Drives for years and always have found that the quality is excellent.

Pleasantly surprised to find it a helium filled CRM drive which achieves 200MB/sec speeds for both reads and writes. It does get quite warm hitting 55C after backing up 0.5TB, so suggest it only be left on when using it. Unfortunately Easystore drives don't have an on/off switch so I use an on-off adapter. Overall, it does it's job, and is quite economical. I'm quite pleased with the purchase.

Great storage capacity for the dollar, you cant beat the price! Works awesome archiving your digital photos and music. ITs quiet operating compared to some of the competitor brands. Very happy with the ease of use as pretty much plug and play.

Great drive for backup storage. You can remove the hard drives from the case and put them in a PC or NAS unit, but it will void your warranty. Have several different versions going back to the 8TBs from several years ago - never had an issue with any of them and I've bought quite a few!

In this day and age, we need space. I have a huge need for space and this drive soaked my data needs like a sponge. The only downside is the amount of type it takes the File Explorer to show the items on the drive (and I have a really fast processor), but if you are just going to this drive mainly for storage/back-up, it is perfect both in capacity and price.

    Overall Solid Backup Drive

Solid backup drive. Lots of storage for the price/ Read & write performance has been adequate, although I have it paired with an old MacBook Pro (USB 2.0 only) that probably isn't pushing it to it's limits. Only major con to me is the length of the USB cable (about 3 ft) that's included. I had to purchase a longer 10 ft cable separately, and the drive end being "USB 3.0 Micro-B" makes them slightly harder to get a hold of (not available in BB stores, but got one from a "prime" online retailer for about $14 shipped). Would be nice if it was designed to be laid-down on it's side in addition to standing (when standing it doesn't seem ultra sturdy, and I worry that it's going to get knocked during a write cycle and damage the drive). Given that I use this drive to backup a lot personal files, a password (or other means of preventing computers other than the one it's nominally connected to) would be a plus. Overall a good product with an internal drive that's know for it's reliability.

This drive is a great value for the money. 12 TB at this price is a bargain. It's not the fastest. But if you are looking for an external 12 TB drive that is reliable for your every day computing needs; the WD easystore fills the bill.

I have a good background in custom PC building and I have worked with several NAS storage devices/setups. My current PC has several internal hard drives (all Western Digital) and I recently had a 4TB WD external backup solution just like this one that was full. I purchased this to replace it. First off, I have been using nothing but Western Digital mechanical drives and external devices for over 10 years. I have NEVER had any issues with any of them. I have had some of the drives for several years, and ended up replacing them before they died because I needed to upgrade for capacity reasons. This external drive is no different from any other Western Digital device I have had. It's simple to use, it's pretty fast with the USB 3 option, and it runs quiet as well. I say it's 'pretty fast' only because I have been spoiled with 3 different internal SSD drives all with PCIe gen 4 speeds. As a backup option, this WD 12TB external is great. Does exactly what it's suppose to!

Exactly as described. Lots of storage and a great price. I bought this to replace my end of life WD mybook. Since the old mybook is no longer usable due to an unpatchable vulnerability.
