Exactly as described. Lots of storage and a great price. I bought this to replace my end of life WD mybook. Since the old mybook is no longer usable due to an unpatchable vulnerability.

I would prefer the 14TB version, but at $179 (sale price), this is hard to beat. WD Easystore drives contain white label HDDs that are 50% lower in price than the same drives purchased as retail internal drives. In other words, a great value. In addition, WD drives are much more reliable, in my opinion, than comparable Seagate drives. Have owned dozens of these over the years and they have been flawless. If you want to get a feel for owner experiences with these and Seagate drives, look them up on newegg and read the reviews. It will be pretty obvious which drives are considered dependable and which ones are not.

The set up was a breeze just hook up and plug in and all set to go. I was pleasantly surprised by the transfer rate moving large data files to the drive was very fast. Large amount of storage for a very economical price

I have now owned this for two years. Still works perfect. It's used as a Plex drive so accessed daily. Well worth the investment.

great item if you understand that the hardware makers use a different measure of a TB then the computer industry, so it looks like the drive is only 10.9TB.
it depends on who you ask which is correct, but the most important thing is there is plenty of space to use.
unit is plug and play, easy to use and fast.

Pretty outstanding external drive. Not the fastest but at 12 TB it wasn't going to be. That being said it can handle proxy files pretty well with our any lag.

So far, I am getting good drives (8,10,12 TB) and bought them over the time. I also bought one 8TB from Amazon beside Bestbuy. They are all running great!
I took out 3 of them out from the enclosures since if something is going wrong, I couldn't read it anymore when connected directly to sata on my mobo or other external reader. I think it is the matter of block writing format that WD USB enclosure is using.
-12 TB I left it out as cold backup for my photography
-10 TB as hot backup for my photography. I also put my daily files to the drive.
-8 TB as my Linux drive for steam games and software application
-8 TB with original enclosure as media files
-8 TB unused for now
These drives are quite. Good for backup, storing active games installation files, media etc. Whenever I need to edit my photos I move them to my NVME or regular 2.5" SSD and move them back after my edit. The curse of having large raw files from my mirrorless camera, you need large storage.
I am planning to buy a 14TB or/and 16TB soon this week.
I still have a lot of 500GB,1TB,2TB, 3TB and 4TB drives around from Western Digital, Seagate, Iomega. So far out of 15:
-2xSeagate. One 5TB portable I purchased failed spectacularly in just short few month. The 500GB is running great.
-2x Iomega. One 1TB failed around 10 years ago. I think one of them is still running but I left it is collecting dust.
-The rest of the drives are Western Digital and they are all still running good with only 1/10 which is a 3TB failed after 3 years. Some of them are over 10 years and still running. It is crazy.
-The last one I couldn't remember the brand but I gave it away.
I wish I am getting red drive but I learned recently WD using SMR for most of the drives I purchased which is a let down. As long as they are not failing I am happy.

The setup was expectedly easy and it has been running smoothly. Not quite yet in reaching capacity, close, but not there yet and when it comes to WD drives, I never have any fear of failure.

Definitely Not 7200rpm as Advertised by BestBuy

While the drive's a great deal for the price, I was excited to get a 7200rpm drive for such a great price only to discover it is a 5400rpm WD Red drive.* (I'm not sure why BestBuy lists it as 7200rpm. They should correct this!!! If it weren't for this one error in the llisted specs, I would have given it 5 stars.)
*I found this out by searching for information on the internal drive. There's a guy on YouTube who disassembled this 12TB model to see what's inside and photographed the inside.
That said, it's still fast for an external USB 3.0 drive. The internal Red drive is designed for the demands of NAS drives, so it's a bit more reliable than your standard internal hard drive, only packaged in a USB 3.0 external case.
The housing is the same old WD book-style case that is great for standing the drive vertical. (Which I prefer over drives that lay horizontal taking up all sorts of space on the desk.)
It's formatted NTSF with 4096 bytes per cluster. While that might present a problem to Mac users, it's perfect for PC users who want to configure it as a shared drive. It's also nice if you have lots of small files (that's because the smallest file you can have is at least as large as your cluster size.) For this reason, I always reformat FATxx and exFAT drives to NTSF, it was nice not having to reformat this. I just plugged it in and it was ready to use.
So, don't let the 5400rpm speed scare you off. It's still a great price. And, perhaps after BestBuy reviews my review they will correct this on their product page.

Works great I love the speed and reliability of these drives. The only complaint is they can be noisy even when the connection should be dormant and the computer is in sleep mode.

They always have sales on the external drives so i would say add them to your wishlist and get one when on sale. They are great and add alot of storage, also rock solid ! I have had 15-20 WD drives over the years and they are all still working with no issues. I personally only get or recommend WD drives because ive had others, especially seagate and they never last long before getting a lot bad sectors and eventually dying

It's an external storage unit that does exactly what it's meant to do, store an enormous amount of whatever you want or need it to.
There's nothing to using - no setup or anything of the sort. You plug it in and it ready to go.
You do need to eject it though if you want to remove it from your computer safely. (You can do this with the upwards pointing arrow on the taskbar)

The Easystore hard drive comes with pretty decent software (Acronis) for backing up your computer. The drive is pretty quiet for a hard drive and is fairly quick in completing back-up tasks. I do wish that the warranty was longer than 2 years though.

This is a good drive. It sits quietly on the shelf holding data. It's been a good drive. Doesn't talk much, doesn't eat much, and never makes a mess. House trained and never noisy. Highly recommend.
Ok, seriousness.... it's a good drive. I've had it a year and a half now and never had any issues from it. Check prices/per GB though. the 14TB may be worth picking up.

WD Drive -- Good News / Bad News

Bad news -- my original drive failed after about 9 months. Good news -- Best Buy replaced it without a hassle, eventhough the drive was now $90 more than I originally paid. Thank God for replacement insurance. It is fast and easy to use and, mostly, reliable.
