Great for mass storage. Bad for editing

This is great for massive storage but not great for things like video editing simply because the drive has a tendency to fall asleep to save power. So if you hit "play", it might take a couple seconds for it to wake up and kick into action.
So this drive would be great to make back up copies of everything, or for playing movies (because who cares if there is a three second delay before an hour and a half movie starts playing), but I wouldn't use it for things where that delayed reaction would kill you.
BTW- ALWAYS MAKE BACK UPS! Never trust that any drive will last forever. They all break eventually. If you store 12tb of precious family memories in one place, and it crashes, you have lost a lot. I would also recommend keeping a copy in another location in case of fire or flood.

A great way to store large files. WD is known for reliability and that seems to be the case with others I have purchased.

Easy large storage device. Quiet operation and it stays cool inside my desk cabinet. Actual usable amount of storage is closer to 10.5 TB.

The magic of storing data electron-by-electron has brought about a revolution in computer storage; YouTube could not exist as it is when mechanical, character storing drives were the thing. This drive is easy to set up and use, and even features a transformer plug that does not block other outlets on a power strip. An excellent high capacity drive, reasonably priced.

Bought these because I read online they contained WD Red NAS hard drives in them. The case is easy to crack open and install into my Synology NAS. Purchased 8 of these so now my home server has over 62 TB of space. At less than half the price of 12TB WD Red NAS hard drives, these drives are a steal. They have been running non stop in my server for over 100 days with no issues.

Vibrates like CRAZY, do not have this on your desk

I purchased this to take the place of 2 ext HD I had for music and movies. I am pleased with this so far, but there is 1 little thing that is annoying and everyone should know. This thing vibrates like CRAZY. I was feeling the vibration in my desk and I could not figure out what it was. I at first thought my PC fans were going, wrong.....this drive spins up and it puts out a very very strong vibration that travelled through my desk and to my keyboard tray. It was SOOO annoying I had to remove it from my desk and put it on the floor. If you plan on having this on a desk next to something, I would look elsewhere or get a SSD version. Other than that, the drive is fast and it works with no issues so far.

Adds Massive Storage for Backup to your Computer

If you are looking for just storage, this is just for you. Adds space to your laptop or desktop, but this is not portable and does require a power adapter. Make sure you have USB 3.0 or better to take advantage of the fast files transfer speeds, although it will still work with USB 2.0, but it will be considerably slower. Fast, simple, easy! Buy today!

I really like the fact that these have front lights to let you know that the hard drive is on and or is currently reading/writing. Some of the other WD drives lack this feature but on the other hand, some may actually want to not have lights too, but a small piece of tape can fix really easily. It’s much harder to put a light on a drive than it is to cover one up. Still super pricey on BestBuy but they usually have it in stock so that makes it worth it.

Copies fast using USB 3.0 but also works on USB 2. Decent amount of storage in a single external unit. I use this as an offline and offsite backup so only connect it to my PC when I need to run a back up. I primarily keep documents, files for software under development and photos on it, all of which are way to much for cloud storage. If I leave the house for more than a day I take this with me - very convenient, just unplug and go.
