The good and bad of WD 12 TB External HD

Don't get me wrong, for the money it's great. I do a lot of video editing so I need lots of HD space. Ok, so this is what I don't like. First, it seems that the HD goes to sleep when not being accessed and takes a good 15 seconds to start up. 2nd, You're not really getting 12TB but just a little over 10TB. I know this is normal I guess but you know what I mean.

Replaces a 4-drive DAS

One drive was recently dropping out of the drive pool. I realized I could replace the entire pool with a single drive for about 1/5th of what I originally paid to build the DAS. Next time these are a good deal, I think I will get a second one to run as a backup drive.

Huge amounts of storage for average user!

My biggest issue with ALL BRANDS of external drives has been how long they last. Time will only tell here. Learned the hard way to get a USB port for bot computer and external HDDs so their USB plus won't be subject to wear and tear. Time will tell.
