The next external single drive capacity jumps 2TB!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You have to love that these 3.5" drives don't use a soldered USB to SATA bridge adapter like their 2.5" counterparts which gives them more versatility to be used internally or externally. I mainly use these for storing HD DVR recordings and every bump in TB helps. But I'm hoping we see a 17TB model skipping 16TB so we can max out MBR recordings on a single drive using 4K sectors with another TB. Not everything has to jump 2TB at a time. Go to 15TB for the next model and then 17TB for the final model. In theory the limit is 17.59TB for 4K sector drives using MBR. So let's max it out WD. Don't skimp and stop at 16TB or you'd lose 1.59TB of extra usable space. 18TB won't work with MBR unless you provide a way for users to hard drive firmware limit the drive to 17.59TB exactly but you'd lose 0.41 TB. I have a feeling you won't market a drive as 17.59TB since you love whole numbers. So going with a pure 17TB drive you'd only lose 0.59TB and not deal with firmware limiting the drive and MBR gets maximized as close as possible.

Great size, but had issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.12TB is a great size. But I bought one of these for an xmass gift for myself. First time I plugged it in, downloaded the program. it was not recognized. Used the WD program, shows it was SMART failure, and also showed it had 5 login attempts failed. This item was a restock and I was not told by the salesperson. It would not even wipe/reformat the HD. Tried it on my tower and my laptop, got same issue with both. Going back tomorrow for replacement

Hardware Failing After 18 Months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HD Worked great when I first bought it. After 18 months, it has started making a high pitched buzzing noise and sounds like there are internal hardware issues. The buzzing is getting progressively worse everyday, and WD help forum says it indicates hardware failure and to back up right away. Most hard drives are supposed to last for 5-10 years, this is shortest amount of time I have had a hard drive before it starts failing. Would not recommend.

Mac Musicians - Don’t Buy This One
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always take 1 star ratings with a grain of salt and just read them to get an idea of the worst possible scenario. In this case those 1 star reviews were all true for me. Drive light comes on but my Mac won’t recognize it any more. A years worth of creative work gone (except for those items I double-backed up on other drives). Have tried everything to get it to reconnect, but out of the blue, my Mac just can’t see this anymore. I have to buy another drive and load my entire music sound bank libraries all over again. Ughghgh. May be fine for documents, but NOT good for creative users.

No Security Feature on this one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just bought this as my WD "My Book" 4 TB died. It won't boot up. Was disappointed that this 12 TB does not have the Security Lock feature commonly found on WD external HD. Oh well. Wil have to see how this 12 TB perform or last.

Unacceptable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered two 12TB of these: The first one was completely defective to the point that it could not initialize the drive. The second one was working; however it was only 450GB... Do not buy these.

It says "plug and play" on the box.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My modern properly running Windows computer wouldn't recognize this. I have other external hard drives connected and functioning perfectly. I spoke to a Geek Squad member and was told"yes we have a lot of problems getting computers to recognize Western Digital external hard drives". I spent the day trying and ended the day returning (an hour drive twice today). Thank you Best Buy...

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oredered a 12TB, the box says 12TB, the case is an 80HBK, not a 120HBK and it shows up as only 8TB (7.8 unformattted)
