Works as it should. Although an SSD would be better if they were cheaper but this works just fine.

It does seem to turn on, and instantly report that 14TB means 12.7TB, which is common market terminology I just didn't know that. Just learn to buy 1.1 times the size you want. Best Buy tacked on a $50 loss policy I didn't mean to include, and there's no apparent way to return the policy, just return the whole thing. I specifically asked for and was told this disk can be encrypted, but no apparent option exists to do that. WD security says "connect a compatible drive". I downloaded acronis, to no help. Under "how do I protect my computer", it tells me I'm protected. This disk is wide open to anyone with a USB, and my hard drive is open to anyone who wants to plug it in. I tried exploring some things, and one of the first things it wanted was for me to choose the format type, and I have no idea what type. I thought about trying to back up my computer, but it doesn't seem obvious how to do that either, and if I find out how to encrypt something, it will probably wipe it out anyway and refuse to setup as a new disk. If you know more about computers than the people that sell them, you don't need my recommendation to know if this disk will work for you. If not, I can't tell you it will do anything secure. I think if you don't care who can read your files, this is probably pretty good. For me, I won't put my files on there until I figure out how to secure it, so it's a paperweight until further notice.

You know what they're for. Get it on sale. Only drawback is all the waste vs a bare drive but they are more expensive.

Very good hard drive. It has good transfer speeds.

Very spacious HDD, a little large but not big issue. I am using it constantly and never had any issues so far.
