WD is my 1st choice in hard drives. Great value.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very nice, quiet, massive storage for the $. I like to archive a great many things, obviously, and this helps me to do it. This way, if someone 'borrows' something & you don't get it back, you've got it here.

slow, cheap, backup storage
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a hard drive. Shuck the plastic Scheiße off and stick it in your desktop and use it for a backup. If you just have a laptop, you probably have no use for this much space in a backup drive. Do not use for anything but backups, it's slow as Scheiße.

Good price byt drive is noisy
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this drive to schuck and it was fairly easy to do so. Very good price on offer for a 14TB 7200rpm drive. Drive fits in a proliant microserver gen8 bay no problem. Drive is noisy though.

WD has finally let me down again
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a fan of WD. I have three of them in 24x7x365 use. I've had very few fail over thirty years of using them. I've tried other brands, but for me, WD has been the most reliable for spinning drives. (I don't own a WD, or SanDisk SSD.) But this 14TB drive is now being repaired (in Windows 10) for the fourth time (actually that just finished and I am now checking it again). I don't trust it. I will get a replacement (I hope), and I hope it works better. A few hours after I got this, I started to copy data from an 8TB Elements that was running out of space. It failed after about 30 hours (and I cooled both drives, the 8TB WD Elements and this 14TB one with small CPU fans the whole time). After that first transfer failure, I connected it to a Windows machine (it's formatted NTFS OOB). Speccy showed that it had 144 hours on it. Who put the first 114 hours, or so, on it? I connected it to another Linux box to copy files after the second failure having it connected to the server that it's supposed to be on. It failed on that box for the third and fourth times. The 8TB WD Elements has never had any trouble (it replaced a piece-of-garbage Seagate 8TB that was as much trouble as this new drive has been). Another odd thing is that it makes what sounds like a double or triple seek every three seconds, or every five seconds apparently depending on how full it is and which machine it is connected-to, when it's idle and connected to any machine, as required for it to be powered-up. I haven't heard that kind of thing on an idle drive for a couple of decades, at least. Others have reported this as well. They explain that WD says it's normal, and not a symptom of trouble. (Did Seagate secretly buy WD????) As I wrote this, I checked it with Windows (10) Error Checking for the fifth time, and waited for that to complete. I'm happy (but not relieved) to say that this time, no errors were found.

Good drive company
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like WD products. The only negative is you loose over 15% of the disk space after formatting. What's up with that?? (ha ha)
