Excellent WD external drive. Quiet and fast. Some people have mentioned that it is loud, but I can't get mine to make any loud noises. Now-- every now and then it will do something like calibrate the heads or whatever and it does make a small "chunking" sound, but it makes this sound rarely and it muffled. Transfer speeds are limited to your USB port. This is a USB3 device, so you can expect about 5 mbps when using a USB3 port on your computer. USB2 will be slower. I'm using this to back up several computers in the house as well as storage space to duplicate photos and other stuff. I am very happy with this-- especially for the price.

Very easy to use. Great for storing large numbers of videos.

I use this drive to stream all my HQ music (DSF, FLAC). It is on all the time and can deliver a stream to multiple endpoints at the same time. Not bad for a backup drive!!

I bought this to back up a laptop before sending it in for repair. I do prefer Seagate/WD products for storage but lately I am buying more SD cards and Flash Drives as their storage capacity increases. I would buy this product again if I need a large amount of storage again. Thank you!

Awesome hard drives. I have several of these that i use to back up my plex media to. I tend to fill these up completely from the get go, so i usually pull the cover off and set a usb 120mm fan over the controller board to cool it and the drive. Its easy to remove, just look up shuck easystore on youtube.

Excellent value at the $199 price I paid while on sale. Western Digital are typically the only drives I purchase. Drives inside are typically non-tler versions of HGST/WD white label red drives. YMMV however. They also need the 3.3v sata power unconnected to work. 100-150 MB's or so throughput.

Wonderfully priced 14TB hard drive. It was not cheap, but with the sale price, I think it was equally priced to the 12TB. For the storage capacity, it was the best value of any hard drive over 5TB. Anything larger, would double the price. Using it to store all my PS4 games in order to play them on the PS5, if I can ever get my hands on one!

Capacity is the lure here. Many of us collect movies and photos and we back them up or store them on external drives like this WD 14TB. One thing to keep in mind, if you use this primarily for storage you may need to back it up. With big space can come big loss. Buy 2. LOL. Nice drives, I've been using these for several years now.

Works great…I dropped it while running and I can no longer use it for primary backup because it’s making additional noise now but after disk scan no sectors had an error and data was verified with Tera. My fault knocking it over during a bulk data write. Probably gonna strip it for a 3rd BU.

I needed a massive amount of storage for tons and tons of videos and photos. I was amazed at the relatively low price of this small monster. Hookup was a breeze. Windows instantly recognized it. Easy to move files over. Not the fastest external drive I've owned, but this is geared for mass storage - not performance. Not disappointed.

I bought this on sale for right around $200, It was a good value at that price. I actually bought 10 of them. 8 of 10 were able to write at over 220MB/s. Two of them were a newer drive with a more recent manufacture date and hit 240MB/s but had slower random write throughput. They also get quite hot if your transfer takes more than an hour. I'm taking one star off because of the bad random performance.

So much space at such a great price!!!! LOVE THIS DRIVE!
