I have bought a number of these and none of them have failed. The key to have reliability is to buy not all at once but at different times and from different retailers. This way you are less likely to get a bunch of faulty doa ones or worse ones that die immediately after the warranty is up.

Reliable and massive! When on sale, it's a great USB 3.0 drive for mass storage needs - exp. those big iPhone 4K movies shot in Pro Motion, and HDR photos in RAW. I use it as a backup drive and its relative speed is not all the important. Overall it's a great value.

I got this for doing data back-ups because just my MP3 collection alone is almost two TB! I also have sound clips, movies and other assorted files I like to keep back up copies of for reinstalling, moving to a new computer etc.. Just be careful and make sure you place the drive in a safe place. I accidentally knocked over my last drive and it broke!

A huge amount of space for the price it is unbeatable. Its practically silent. I wish it had a dedicated power button instead of turning on when the usb is plugged in to a device. Note that you actually get 12.7 TB and that is not a mistake. I do recommend.

    Great External Drive for Storage

I bought this on sale for $199, and that makes it a good value for me. I don't think I'll ever fill out the entire drive. I have the same drive that I purchased a couple years ago that is connected to my computer that I use as the main storage. I keep pictures, documents, ripped CDs, ripped movie files in this drive. Still plenty of space left. I bought a second drive to back up my files from my first drive. Pictures, videos and music files are invaluable to me. So, backing them up is a no brainer for me, and this drive feels like it has unlimited space for my usage. I don't keep this drive plugged in at all time, so it won't break or malfunction or become corrupt if I kept it on and plugged in at all time. I back up to this drive as soon as I save new pictures and videos into my main drive. Just FYI, this drive stops spinning after a period of inactivity, which is great for longevity, but you'll need to wait 10 seconds for it to "wake up" if you need to access it. If you need immediate access and quick speeds, this is not the drive for you. Go for an SSD.

As easy as an external HD goes. I've had this for a bit over a year, and it's still going. I had to restart it manually once after a power spike in my apt complex. Other than that it is service me well.

So far so good! I watched youtube videos to learn how to use it with my mac. It has great storage capacity and works as expected. I like the drag and drop functionality. It's not to loud or distracting with lights etc. I would purchase again.

Bought this drive and shucked the case. All 5 drives worked perfectly together in a Syba 8 Bay USB enclosure. Did not need to modify any pins in order for them to work in the enclosure. Would definitely buy more in the future.

I've always used Western Digital drives exclusively, internal and external, and have so far never had a failure. Maybe it's luck, but I'll keep buying them. This one was plug and play as usual and catching it on sale was even better. Recommended.

This is a huge drive at 14TB and was easily shucked (removed from the enclosure) for use in my NAS without any modification needed. It was a good value vs. buying a standalone drive. It only spins at 5400mb, but that's good for longevity. I'd buy Western Digital over Seagate every time.

I’ve always had good experiences with WD drives, and this one is no different. I bought it to use as a safety net when moving all of my files from my old desktop to a new one. It works well and meets my needs.

Good storage device for home. These are reliable harddrives for home use with a good warranty. The only negative is that they constantly get better and larger year by year so you can get a better one for the same price next year, but you can say that about almost all tech. I recommend this for home use.
