I have 3 of these drives that I have removed from the enclosure and installed in a QNAP Network Attached Storage box. Yes this voids the warranty, which I had considered. The price per GB is great and especially worth it when they are on sale. I've had one for a year and just bought two more. I've never had any issues with the drive. They run cool. The drive does make a bit of noise when accessing so keep that in mind if you keep your storage box in a quiet environment.

Pros: 1. There is tremendous amount of space on this drive 2. The transfer speed is amazing. Around 200MB/s which can even rival some earlier low end sata ssd with speed. 3. It's very much possible to play games from it with a very nice reduction to the loading time. 4. Very portable Cons: 1. power supply needed, so cannot be used without an outlet nearby. problem can be resolved with a usb c to 12v barrel connector (5.5x2.5mm) and a powerbank 2. makes some noise, but that is actually good thing, as it implies that this is helium filled enterprise hard drive. overall this is wonderful value, compared to those so called gaming hard drives, because it provides the same performance with a fraction of their price.

I have purchased numerous of these drives, the 14TB model being the latest. The drive inside is compatible to a WD Red at a more affordable price and with an enclosure and power supply. Noise level and heat are as to be expected. I have run more than 10 of these (all different sizes) and never had an easystore fail over many years of 24/7 use.

Nice, large HDD. The only problem I've had is that it has this annoying flashing light whenever you turn the computer you've connected it to off. I got it for $200 during a sale, which made it one of the best values per TB I could find.

This is totally a MUST HAVE, if you need the extra space. Whether you need a digital locker locker for your videos, photos, backups or any large files, this is a perfect place to store them. If your work heavy in editing, whether it be digital, audio, video, etc and need a good storage space, this is a quick and easy option! Granted, the writing speeds are not the best, but transfers are easy and universal. The USB 3.0 helps ease of use, but Large files will take a good while to transfer. A/C power definitely helps with this. Definitely a "Local" hard drive, Try not to use this Hard Drive for " on the go" travel.

Best Buy had the Western Digital EasyStore 14TB external hard drive for an unbelievable Black Friday deal of $199.99! I keep all of my computer data on an external drive and the one I was replacing was 2TB in size and getting pretty full. This new drive would have 7 times the space! (Of course, after formatting, which is already done, the effective usable space is about 12.5TB, but that is true for all hard drives.) There should be enough room on the drive to last me for several years. I always back up my drives so I bought 2 at that price. The other is the backup to the new drive. Installation and migration of the data on my old 2TB was easy, although it took a few hours to complete the process even with USB 3.0 speed. The drive is peppy and working perfectly. I am very pleased.

I've had really good results with these external drives. They seem durable and perform well when attached to a USB 3.0 port. Over time, I've bought these over the years as their capacity keeps growing. As of this writing, the 14TB drive provides the best cost/GB. The price can fluctuate a bit, so buy when there is a discount. Bet Buy has the best pricing on these when they are discounted.

Lots of storage--do NOT use to play games directly

I use this hard drive for storage of my PC games. For that purpose, it works great. Lots of space for lots of games. But do not try to play games directly off of it. Even if not being used, it will cause 20 second pauses while you play. Unplug it when you play. And transfer any game to your computer before trying to play. Also, it's noisy. So expect to hear 20 seconds of read-write noise even if not being used directly by your device.

Amazing price for as huge it’s capacity, I am using with my new Xbox series X, however it can’t play the newer games that require fast excess, most of previous games can be store in this hard drive. One more benefit is even if you can’t play from this drive but it will transfer to your Xbox series X way faster than downloading it from online. Only if it didn’t make that noise I would have five stars. Still love it.

Really good high capacity drive for the best possible price. I was waiting to buy this for a long time for using it to organized all my movies, pictures, and videos. Finally ended up getting it during the Black Friday sale for a steal. The WD tools drive scan took about a day but checked and verified the drive free of any bad sectors. Have used it for a few weeks now and no issues so far. Very happy with the purchase!

Easy to use, doesn’t take up an excess amount of space, and has tons of space for the value that I paid at the time. WD has always had a simple plug and play peripheral line that I’ve used since college; a couple of those drives are still in use now! Now if my iPhone could have a 10th of the same space by default for the price I’d be happy.

I bought the device to back up a number of smaller external drives. It's easy to set up and use, and provides peace of mind regarding my pictures, documents, and music. Glad I finally picked one up! I gave it four stars because it's relatively new, but it'll get the fifth star if it keeps working years from now :)

    Best shuckable drive!!

These are white label WD Red drives in an external case. I personally use the drives shucked in a NAS case as internal drives. Drive was a EMFZ. Cases are easily shuckable by watching a YouTube video. BEWARE: If you are planning to use this in the default enclosure that the drive CAN get hot. There is not active cooling on this external case. If you use it as a external drive, it is recommended to transfer it to a different external case with fans for active cooling or sitting some type of fan next to/on top of the stock case to force some air movement. Price isn't the lowest currently. They've hit $200 before, but $230 is an acceptable price. Drives did NOT require any power volt mod for use in a custom built FreeNAS system with SATA backplane.

Great product for a great price. For the price of this Western Digital hard drive, the amount of storage you get is unbeatable. 14 TB’s of storage is so much storage that I don’t believe I will ever run out of storage space with this unit. The hard drive appears to be excellent quality and I have personally had very good luck with Western Digital products being very relatable and long lasting in the past.

The packaging of the drive was very good, protecting it from any mishaps during transport. The drive itself makes unnerving noises during reads/writes. Completely different from its 12TB variant. I performed several tests and found no issues. The drive is not really well designed for constant use as it heats up quickly. If you need to use it as external drive, you need to cool it using external fan.

I purchased two of these drives on two consecutive black fridays. After owning one for a year with no issues, I felt confident enough to buy another. They are my main back ups and they work as expected. They have plenty of storage so I don't think I will have to worry about running out of space any time soon. I recommend buying them on sale.

With apologies to George Carlin... I filled up my easyStore 10TB a while ago, so offloaded to another drive. Thus was looking for additional capacity. 12TB's were on sale occasionally, but decided to wait for the 14TB. Who knows when or if a 16TB easyStore will arrive. And my wait was rewarded recently. Ordered it on 3/17. Initially said it would ship in a week, but shipped on 3/19 from the Chicago area, got it the next day in SE Minnesota via Fedex. Inside a larger shipping box with inflatable bags to fill the empty space to keep the external drive box from sliding around. I ordered it so I didn't have to run clear across town to the local BB. Plus avoided the city sales tax as I am outside the city limits in a township. If there are problems I can still return/exchange it to/at the local BB instead of paying to ship it back. CrystalDiskInfo reports WDC WD140EMFZ-11A0WA0 5400 RPM. Firmware revision 81.00A81 Windows properties has Capacity: 14,000,517,541,888 bytes 12.7 TB First is decimal (1000's) second is binary (1024's) Divide the first by 1024 enough times and you will end up with 12.7 Powerbrick is still 12V 1.5A, but is rotated 90 degrees compared to the 10TB brick. Will fit better on a typical power strip, leaves more room. But at 1.2 inches wide at the base the bricks can't be adjacent, at least on my power strip. And the brick also partially covers the next ground pin. But a two wire plug should fit between them. First thing I did was run ChkDsk: 20:33:38.65 Fri 03/20/2020 C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk f: /f /r The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is WD 14TB. Then I ran WD Drive Utilities Complete Drive Test. That took about 23 hours to run. Lastly I ran HGST DFT (Drive Fitness Test) SMART Extended Test. That also took about 23 hours to run. In conclusion ChkDsk /f /r is by far the more thorough test. (Used Auto Screen Capture and MouseJiggle to capture the screens and to keep Windows 10 updating the windows. Standalone exe's, no installation needed.) Robocopy'ing (multi-GB size files) from the aforementioned offloaded drive to the 14TB was running around 110 MB/s write speed. Both connected to the same Sunix USB4300NS USB 3 card. Took a combined time of 27 hours to copy 9.58 TB from the offloaded drive and the easyStore 10TB to the 14TB. Had some three wire Thermaltake TT-1225 case fans removed from a disposed case. Mounted them on bolts to blow up into the enclosure. Pretty quiet. During the robocopy, the 14TB was 27 degrees. The other drive, 7200 RPM, in an Orico 6619S3-US-BK open dock, was 42 degrees. So far, so good...
