This is after returning 2 other WD 14 TB drives from another retailer after 1 of those 2 failed. I'm not pleased with WD external hard drives lately. My success getting a working product from WD stands at 50 percent. All 5 external Seagate drives I've bought are still working and some are 24/7 for nearly 4 years. Now I'll have to go throught the rabbit hole of direct to manufacturer returns.

External hard drives should be a no brainer these days, well i use a mac and have never had a problem. But i can not get this unit to stay connected to the IMAC it works for about an hour then drops off. I have all the power settings turned to stay on all the time still does not help. It also locks up my Finder when it is connected. Followed the easy instructions, was not planning on having to spend time with Tech Support for a hard drive.

An unintended alarm clock

I think the designers of this hardware were banking on the fact that since users of this design are more concerned with space than function, they thought of having it make sounds as it backs up would be a minimal issue on users. I used mine as a time machine back up for my iMac. I thought I installed an alarm clock because every night it would just rattle and make noises that disturbed my sleep.

Why not upgrade to the 16TB, right? Wrong. Drive was cluck clucking out of the box and not detected. Tried to initialize and got the dreaded "Drive not ready" error. If the warranty headache doesn't doesn't go as planned, it'll be the last WD product for me. It's my first DOA HDD in 30 years. It also has this horrible glossy plastic casing that scratches/smudges at the slightest touch. By design. Looks terrible. $300 paperweight
