This is not a good item. It goes to sleep after 2 minutes of inactivity and then I can not reject it.

"Critical Media Error" messages appeared after 4 days. Then the drive started needing to be power-cycled to be visible to computer. Tried on two computers with the same result. Bad drive.

Purchased to replace Drobo NAS. Mac Monterey 12.5. Unit would not boot, not even recognizable by Disk Utility. If it doesn't work out of the box, not gonna fight it any further. Big warning for Mac Users, DON'T BUY.

I bought 4 of these, 2 were dead on arrival. They would spinup, but would not mount or be recognized in any way, in any OS. I returned all 4 because I could not trust them.

Works great. Is quieter in comparison to typical hard drives. Not saying it's quiet; just quieter. I typically get about 150 MB/sec transfers, but that's if it's the only data being processed on the bus line. Also, it could be a bottle neck somewhere else in my system. I use it for data storage backup. Not for real time processing or gaming. It also has a power save mode so if it takes a nap, it takes a few seconds to get up to speed before it starts processing data transfers. I've always preferred WD drives. They seem to be built to last longer than other name brands.

Fantastic, quality HDD for providing one source of photo storage and backup. Western Digital HDDs have been reliable for me over the years and I expect the same out of this one.

Deal of the day price [389.99] is still MUCH higher then it was back in November and December last year. Only 3 stars because of the price.

    Thrown Out After Recovery

I had this drive for about 2 years and it lost half its capacity. I transferred the files I could get to however, the WD Utility said, the rest of the drive had bad sectors. No utility was able to recovery the bad areas. I ended up throwing it out as e-waste for fear the drive would completely fail. this is the 3rd external WD drive I've had fail. No more WD going to a m.2 NAS.
