16TB vs 14.5TB

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Drive works and performs as advertised, but gets reported by Windows and other operating systems as 14.5TB, not 16TB - which is roughly a 10% difference between “advertised” and reported capacity. This brings to forefront the difference between how the manufacturers state drive capacity, and how the OS calculates it: Manufacturers 1TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes Operating System: 1TB = 1,099,510,000,000 bytes (1024^4) Seems a little shady, but all hard drive manufacturers use this math “trick” in an attempt to push themselves to to top in drive capacity wars.

Easily shucked
