I bought this because my laptop has virtually no storage and needed something right away. A terabyte is plenty of space and it’s small enough to place anywhere without it being in the way.

I wasn't really impressed with this harddrive. First time plugging it in it does not bring up any instructions or install any software or do anything so you need to go through the directories and find the provided backup software (and install it) if you are not using windows to backup your machine...not hard but not as easy as my last backup drive which brought the software right up and stepped you through questions on how you wanted to us it. Next it took about 24 hours to backup 258 GB of data. Seems very slow. My older backup drive (5-7 years old) is much faster to my knowledge. So the drive seems to serve its purpose but did not impress me.

everything worked fine. loaded my entire audio collection on the drive. will not interface with Toyota Corolla; unsupported device. tried reformatting to FAT. not working in car.

I purchased this to backup all our photos. It worked perfectly for that use.

I use this to store my music collection and it has good read and write times.

This is a great HDD for anyone wanting backup on the go.

Despite stating it is compatible with Macs and saying Plug and Play, I was unsuccessful in getting this drive to work on my Mac. Went to the WD website, two calls to Customer Support/Tech Support and nothing. I bought two, one for me and one for her, and both are going back on Monday. I have never had an external Hard Drive not work on my Mac so unless you're really good at troubleshooting and solving these kind of issues, I recommend Seagate or the WD Passport, neither of which have given me trouble.

Works like a dream, I use it for back up, the USB 3.0 transfer is pretty swift.

I ordered this for in store pick up as it was the top rated. I picked it up and asked the cashier if this would work with my new MacBook Pro and she said “oh yeah! The box says so!” So I went home and the box said it has an instruction manual and the needed drivers - It did not. It had a piece of paper with website if you needed help. So I went to the website and struggled navigating through it, I decided to call their customer service and we were having trouble understanding one another due to the language barrier. I emailed them hoping for a response and was advised I would receive a response in two business days!!! After a whole day and some of watching YouTube videos - I finally have it working on my Mac (I think anyway). If reformatting is needed for a Mac, why not include the instructions and proper support? Considering just returning this as I still have 14 days and buying a more Mac-friendly device.

Western Digital is a scam company. I only have had the drive for less than a year and right now, it will not read on my Mac. Yes, Western Digital offered to replace it, but as for my data (over 400 GB on the drive), they recommended some data recovery companies, the cheapest of which was $200! This is the only way they help you recover data, recommending companies that supposedly give you a 10% discount and 10% of $200 is barely any type of discount. Do not use any Western Digital product because if it fails, they will send you to companies that scam you out of your money and Western Digital probably receives some type of kickback. I wish I could have given this product 0 stars.

Well this was a complete failure on my part when I purchased this three days ago. I like everything about this external hard drive from WD except for one thing and one thing only. This WD external hard drive cannot be used for product registration on the WD Technical Support website. I was already going to return this anyway because it's also not compatible with My Cloud. Absolutely terrible. I do not recommend that you buy this. You've lost as soon as you open the box and then realize no online technical support. Case closed.

Backup SW doesn't work on my Win 7 desktop. Won't find target. Works ok with MS backup.
