Returned product due to poor longgevity outlook

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this enclosed 2.5" drive from Western Digital because it had a good price and was easy to implement. I normally use an external drive and enclosure for doing backups when needed and don't let the drive run all the time that the computer is on. I returned this drive because of an unsettling choice made by this and as it turns out, other manufacturers. The new versions of external drives like this one are now attaching the interface directly to the drive, eliminating the possibility of replacing the case and interface due to a future interface problem. In my experience, the drives are much less likely to fail compared to the interface. But when the interface does fail on these new drives, you can't replace it because of the directly soldered connections to the drive. The data is what is valuable, the warranty means nothing other than the confidence of the manufacturer of how long they think the drive might last. When I returned this drive, I purchased an internal WD 3.5 inch drive and supplied my own standard, easily replaceable interface case for it to be used externally. I will never again buy a pre-enclosed drive supplied from a manuafcturer with this short-sighted design. My opinion born out by involvement in the computer business since 1978.
