I just got one of these and smooth as glass. Just plug it in and go. The performance is 10 percent faster than my Seagate 7200RPM 1TB drive on the Passmark test. It makes no sound or vibration, and the software it comes with isn't needed so I wouldn't bother. Use the Windows backup and also make image files of your system and you'll be all set. I'm using it for video and backup storage, and it's perfect for it. Check your router or TV specs to see if they support a 4gig drive though, many have limits on the size if you plan on plugging it into one. I just share it on the LAN and it's best that way anyway since it's so big you'll want to access it locally. The other similar one has the tacky case and encryption, but they're the same drive. I got it because I'm over dealing with AC adapters and may use it on a laptop in the future, no power cord to mess with made it worth it. Passmark 105-110 MBS transfer rate, silent and runs cool. If the price is right and you have USB 3.0 don't hesitate.

Purchased during the pre-black friday sales this year and couldn't pass it up. Bought it primarily for centralized storage for all of the PCs in my house. It's quick, plug and play. solidly built, and it does not require an additional AC cable. I am personally considering picking up another one for my Xbox One as additional storage.

Good price but potential short life hard disk

The Black Friday deals are very good. But when I receive it, I take a look exact hard disk type inside, I suddently found the hard disk have some risk: 1. this is SMR hard disk with Trim feature, it means when just read data without frequence write and rewrite, it is work fine, otherwise, You are on your own, good luck! (This comment based on my terrible experience with Seagate SMR HDD, but Seagate haven't Trim feature) 2. I seek the datasheet, there have a USB interface standalone hard disk without SATA interface, the USB PCB very easy to broken that report on internet (Walmart sale the PCB, if you know how to replace it by youself). If the PCB broken (such as plugging and unplugging USB many times), you will lost all of your data. Please remember, the warranty just 2 years, so, even you only store data, it is still no safety. In totally, the HDD have good capacity and price, but I suggest only use for movie store otherthan data, good luck.

not as good as easystore 2TB

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I just bought this one yesterday. I was eager to see how much better it was than the 2TB easystore I bought a month or two ago. I was delighted with the 2TB model. That model is extremely thin, light, and runs very cool. This 4TB model didn't surpass my expectations. It is half again as thick as the 2TB model, nearly twice as heavy, got surprisingly warm during a large backup, and its transfer speed is nearly 10% SLOWER than the 2TB. I then ran some large-transfer tests a couple times, comparing the two drives side-by-side. The results gave the same transfer-speed difference each time. But on a positive note, the 4TB didn't get hot during these tests, like it did during the original backup. I don't know what to think. There's absolutely no info on the packaging. No specs anywhere to be found that describe the actual drive inside the plastic casing. I suppose maybe this 4TB easystore is internally two 2TB drives piggy-backed together. Who knows. But it doesn't perform as fast as the 2TB. That's the bottom line. I might take this one back for refund, considering. Comparison: 2TB thickness = 14mm 4TB thickness = 20mm 2TB weight = 4.75 oz 4TB weight = 8.5 oz
