    Not worth the headache

It was working great for 11 days. I was in the middle of a major transfer of files when it started to have mounting and reading problems. At this point I had over 2TB of information on the drive that I was scrambling to figure out a way to access and retrieve. To make matters worse the return period is only 14 days. I called my local Best Buy to see if they could help retrieve the information. For a fee I was told that Geek Squad could attempt. Not cool. Then I asked if I could have extra time to see if I could get anything off the drive. They would not extend the return period. Pretty crappy considering I've been a loyal Elite member for many years. I was able to finally access most of the files, but I also wanted to try to wipe the drive. Didn't have time to do that. All in all a pretty crappy experience.

Bought this around July used it everything was fine, then a month or two ago it just started making a clicking noise, and refused to let me move copy or delete files from it!! Tried to get it to work On My Desktop PC and My Laptop but couldn't. Even ran check disk and it seemed to fix it for a while, but then it messed up again. Eventually found the WD Data life Guard tool and seems to have fixed it. Mine seems to have messed up when it had like 50GB or less on it. also sometimes would get tired of it not moving files and would just unplug it because it wouldn't let me eject it. Even though Windows says you can do that I wouldn't recommend it. If It doesn't want to Eject go to whee it says eject and go to devices and printers and most of the time you can click on it and eject it that way.

You Get What You Pay For

This is a Best Buy Hard Drive that is only branded by Western Digital. Western Digital doesn't even list it on its website. If you wait long enough, you can buy this drive for only $79. It is good only for file transfers and not backup of important information.

I have bought many of these drives. For whatever reason this one will not go through any kind of repair it says it’s corrupt a formatted add something to it, and it becomes corrupt again.

    Horrible Warranty Service

I had issues with my drive not transferring data. I contacted support at WD, who after having me do some testing, said the drive was faulty and that it qualified for a new one. Then gave me the website to start the process. The fact that the support couldn't help me further other than giving me their confusing website and to top it off I have to pay to ship it to them in order to replace the faulty drive that was not my fault. Won't be buying another WD product after this.

Don't buy this brand!! It is not durable!!

This brand is garbage, don't waste your money in this, because you will spend a lot more in a couple of months trying to save your data. This is the second time I buy WD brand. The first time I bought MyPassort, couple of months later I accidentally dropped it, and instantly got damaged and my computer didn't recognized it. I was like ok it was my fault, i was stupid enough to dropped it.. I got a data recovery which was extremely expensive... $1,000 expensive... that was just insane! but I did payed it... I went back to buy the same brand, this exact one, everything was going fine until today. Out of nowhere it stopped working, my computer is not recognizing it... The first time i was like, ok its my fault, but this time it wasn't ... This brand should consider making more durable portables , shock resistance, accidents happen, a tiny drop and boom all your data is damaged, that is so ridiculous..

    Failed read write test

This external hd failed after 2 years of use with some valuable data. I backed up most, but I primarily used this to store videos because of its large size. It is so frustrating. Hint: never buy large external HDDs beyond 1 tB. When they fail, all the data will be lost. And never buy from WD. Such a poor quality.

    Do not trust, they fail

    Posted .

I have just gotten around to reviewing these because I think others should be warned how quickly these fail. I have 3 total and 2 started to fail within 30 days. I tried formatting but they just will not function and cause all kinds of issues on any computer I try to connect them to. I do not use them overly, plugged them in maybe once a month, and stored them for back-ups. I had 2 to be safe and both failed. I also have the 6tb drive and that is starting to sound like it is failing. I am hoping i can get everything copied over before it does as I have no more backups. I will never buy WD again after this, I have been using their drives since I got my first computer, those 20-year-old drives still work! But the new drives are horrible in less than 6 months! Epic fails WD!! Please find a better drive. I wonder if the reason they dropped the price so much has to do with how badly they fail? Use only if you do not mind losing the data eventually because they are that bad!

Failed after 9 months of use - no warning

Unit sat on top of computer as external drive and one day just appeared to be blank. Used about 2Tb. Ran WD tools - Smart Drive passed but failed both quick test and extended test. Windows now lists drive as RAW. Did not have power failure or pull USB cable without removing via Windows. Sad and unhappy.

Lots of storage space, but when I plugged it in to my laptop to move files, it wouldn’t recognize the hard drive, because the hard drive had died. The light wouldn’t turn on. Very disappointed!

WD Easy Store and Passport for Mac

Both drives stopped working after a short period of time (4 months) and I almost lost all my data. WD Customer service is terrible, horrible, deplorable. It took a lot of time to get my money returned on a drive I returned.I bought the Easy Store drive to transfer my data to then that broke. WD products are terrible on Macs, do not purchase if you have a Mac.
