I'm a WD drive user since 1984. WD external drives work right out of the box without any issues whatsoever. Just plug it into your computer or device and in a few seconds you're ready to store or retrieve. I own a multitude of WD product - so much so that they should send me a t-shirt. FWIW, I also own a ton of Seagate. WD fail considerably less than Seagate - although Seagate reliability is catching up. I have several 10 year old WD's still working when needed. I have a few other drives that should work...get the picture? Uncontested reliability = WD. Value at the moment = other brands. (For those wondering, they are also shuckable :-)

I got this for my office server to store my large files. However, the performance is so fast on USB 3.0, that I now work directly out of this HDD, because it is much bigger than my internal HDD. During the first access, there is some bootup time, but subsequently, it is as fast as the internal HDD as far as I could tell. It is quite small for the storage and can be tucked away anywhere . The only con is the requirement for external power, the USB cable does not supply enough power to run it.

Works great. I have a few some I chucked and some I'm using as externals. If u want to take the hard drive out (chuck) and install it directly in your pc these will not work so easily. The HD has some type of board circuit board that will not allow the HD to spin if it detects power on it. I Googled and found placing a peace of electrical tape over the 2 or 3rd contact terminal will circumvent that protection but it's not for the newbie. Also if you chuck it voids the warranty. Other than this they do what they are intended to do. 8 tbs of storage is a lot of storage unless your mining. Also 2 of them I opened did not have red.

This drive was easily installed has met my expectations as a means of backing up my files.

I use this as a dedicated external hard drive for my PS4. Games are massive now so although I installed a larger drive in my PS4, it filled up quickly. This is a plug-and-play drive and it works flawlessly. It does get quite warm but if my media stand were properly ventilated it probably wouldn't get as warm. It is also pretty quiet which is nice. Overall, this is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for increased portable storage.

This was a great buy for 8TB. Easy to use to back up your computer. If you have every lost your pictures and info on your computer, you would say this is worth the money.

I needed a larger external for backup and wanted it to be a Western Digital - my most trusted brand. This drive looks nice, takes up little space, and was very easy to set up. With special holiday pricing, it was a great find!

This product was great for shucking the hard drive and using it in a Synology NAS. The 8TB WD Red drive was a lot cheaper to purchase this way rather than a bare version,

TL;DR These harddrives REQUIRE fan cooling, but have non. They Idle at 65c. They will Fail from overheating. They have Cheap Harddrives inside instead of REDS. ------------------------------- These harddrives had sky rocketed to $250 thanks to the bitcoin craze and finally dropped down to a normal price thanks to the bitcoin crash. I finally got my hands on one for $180. I've heard nothing but good news about these drives since they have Helium filled 5000rpm WD reds in them and are shuckable. Unfortunatly WD has gone into full cheap mode and has started using cheap white labeled 7200rpm drives that are non shuckable and filled with air instead of helium. So they get hot, very hot. I took my new HD home and plugged everything in and the problems started. You get 7.270TB of usable data instead of the full 8.000TB. This really sucks since i could have bought two 5tb drives for $200 and gotten 9.070TB worth of storage since each 5tb drive has 4.540TB worth of storage space. I started transfering my data to this new harddrive. Data transfers at 90mb/s to 200mb/s which is good. These harddrives are loud. They click, clank and make all sorts of weird noises when in idle mode. Also when they vibrate i can feel i pulse from my desk. There wasn't anything wrong with the drives its just they're cheapy harddrives and are just loud and vibrate/rumble like an xbox or sony controller. I checked google and this is normal for these harddrives as well as for their more expensive black drives. Hardrives should be kept cool. Its why they have a metal top. For heat dispersion. I pluggged in my new 8tb drive and it idled at 32c which is great since HD's should stay in the 40c to 50c range. Anything above 50c and harddrives should slow themselves down to avoid cooking themselves. It took about 15 minutes, but i saw that this drive slowly crawled its way up from 32c to 65c during transfers!! I stoppped transfering data to see if the temps would drop and they never did. I unplugged this HD and let it cool by a fan and plugged it back in. Slowly at idle with no transfer's going on this HD crawled back from 32c all the way to 62c. putting my hand above the vent you can feel the heat like a frying pan just cooking this harddrive. I stuck a mini fan on top, started transfering data and watched the temp of this drive go from 65c down to 38c. With the mini fan on top i could feel the heat coming out of this enclosure and it felt like one of those personal heaters you buy during the winters. It took about 5 minutes for the enclosure to get down to 38c and the heat coming out felt felt really cool. This is unacceptable since WD should include a fan inside of this enclosure. I've decided that this is a bad design and refuse to do the work of WD, so i returned this 8tb easystore the next day. I'm going to buy two 5tb portable hardrives for $200 as my brother has a couple and they idle at 40c and go to 50c during transfers which is way cooler than these overheating 8tb easystores. Also i'll have 2gb of extra space. I've always used WD since seagate creates faulty drives, but when a company makes a bad product you have to call them out on it. These large disk easy stores are complete junk and should be redesigned with a fan in the case. buy at your own risk.

I purchased this WD 8TB drive because of the vast amount of storage it offers, as well as the reliability which comes with Western Digital products. It's the ultimate storage solution for any PS4, Xbox One, or Steam Library.

Works as advertised. Excellent amount of storage. I've had absolutely no issues at all and all of my data is backed up and secure.

I’m so happy with this Easystore external 3.0 hard drive. My wife and I had so many pictures and videos across a couple of laptops that we just unloaded into this hard drive. It’s awesome!! Definitely more techy than the old school photo album my parents had :D Overall happy with the size of the devise as well. Makes it easy to travel with.

Easy plug and play, external powered, USB harddrive. If you want on site external data storage this is pretty much everything you could ask for. Also good if you want to transfer data between computers without the need for cloud storage.

This external storage works perfect with PS5 to store PS4 games. The PS5 does not yet have the ability to store actual PS5 games on external yet, but we had plenty of PS4 games. Since storage is always an issue with gaming systems, we didn't want to take away the space for PS5 games on the console and this does the job. We had no issues setting it up. Just plug and play. I have used many externals for home and work and have always gotten WD brand. All of them are working still with no issues.

Trust the name. Got this for a back-up for my back-up. Can't add too much to the specs and product description, easy to use, not ugly on the desk and good value.

This is my fifth 8TB Western Digital External and i must say i love it, granted it is not as flexible as my three 8TB Seagate externals with their dual USB hubs and build in wifi but then again the WD is also less expensive and from my past experiences, more reliable. I would rate performance fair to good, you can stream up to 10GB video without any lag or issues and most files copy in a reasonable rate of time. With that said, i would not recommend it for trying to play larger 4k video content as there seems to be a bit of lag, and even on a powerful system after 18 to 20 minutes in the audio can sometimes get off set from the video but i believe this to be more of a USB bus constraint than a drive output issue. Otherwise there is no reason to not buy as many of these as you need for back up and even extra storage space (just remember to set power settings to "power down drives that are not in use after 10 to 20 minutes) as this will keep them cooler and thus increase life expectancy. So let that drive power down if you aren't using it. Also great for off site backups. As a final though i compare this $159 8TB to my two 24TB NAS Boxes (which cost well over $1,200 EACH and i am reminded of what a great deal these 8TB & 10TB WD external drives are, so pick one or more up today and please enjoy and find me on Youtube at MiloHajek for more tech tips and other updates on all kinds of tech.

I have a few of these drives, but they're not all of the easy store variety. And I have to admit this one, the "easystor" drive, is by far my favorite. It reads and writes faster than the other drives. For some reason it seems to utilize the USB 3 function better. And of course it has WD name so you know its reliable and dependable. If you're hesitant of buying this drive dont be. They're well worth their price, and you wont be dissatisfied!

I have been using WD external hard drives for many years and have had really good luck with them, I have never had a failure, and this drive is no exception, it works flawlessly and has more than enough storage for my needs!

This is my Third 8TB Easy Store. I have 0 complaints. Cheap, and quiet and they help me increase my media collection. Best bargain around.
