I would recommend this hard to anyone that needs storage. Easy set up and off to the races.

I play PS4 games on a SSD and this external drive is connect to a PS4 Pro via USB. The games load time from USB Drive isn’t as fast as SSD but very good IMO. It’s probably load as fast as a regular Internal HDD. 8TB serves me very well considering all the things it holds from PS+ Monthly free games and free to play games.

I bought two of these hard drives form Macs. They are working now and seem to be great. The only issue I had on both units was formatting the drives. Both had problems and I had to recover them from other drives to make them usable. So basically they should be made easier to format but once done seem to work fine.

I've been using WD External Hard Drives for years and the technology has improves so you can store 8TBs in the same size as my older unit that has a 500GB capacity.

These are great for shucking and using in a NAS, which is what I do with them. I have been using WD Easystore drives for many years with no issues.

I bought this to have a backup for my NAS. I was hoping to use this connected to another computer to allow some space separation between the two hardware devices, but alas the software doesn't support backups over a network. Once I got past that disappointment, the device was very easy to set up and configure for scheduled regular backups. I am not using the supplied backup software anymore (as it didn't work for what I was trying to do), but that would have worked fine for data on a 'regular' computer. I've not been using it very long so I don't know about endurance over time but so far it's doing exactly what I bought it to do with no issues (just not quite how I was hoping it would do it).

Excellent fast drive for the money, I'm using it to back up my movies and pictures from my phones.

8 gig for so cheap... I've got 3 and this was the largest capacity and cheapest price amazing

I bought this external hard drive to use for system backups. It does the job very well. I do not use the provided backup software, but rely on other software. The drive is well ventilated and does not get abnormally hot during the limited time I use it. During use, it is very quiet. The only cons I have about this drive is its shiney black plastic housing. It shows fingerprints with the slightest touch. I would have preferred a matte black finish; anything to lessen the fingerprint issue. And like other external hard drives from Western Digital, Seagate and Toshiba, it lacks an on/off switch so you have to unplug the power brick when not in use. Other than that, I am totally satisfied with this drive.

Looking for something large, here it is - 8TB drive. I got two for backup. No problem after months of using it.

I've had this for a couple of weeks now and it's working great. Will get another one when it goes on sale again.

Works as expected. Hope it doesn't crash since all of my photos and videos are on it. I look forward to the day that an ssd this large is this cheap.

This would be a easy 5 star but there are some things that essentially take it out of the "perfect" for me. Couple things in my experience with this device. One would be the plug ins, as this device sits on my desk, I don't use it that often other then just to store files on so I don't have it plugged in, and for me personally I think about how many times I will have to re plug over the course of owning this item and think the plugs will end up breaking before the device does. My only solution is to keep the power cord and the usb cord attached to the unit, so I have to keep the power cord and the usb cable attached to the back at all times until needing to use. I have to mention when I first tried to plug in the usb to the back of this unit it was scary because of the force needed to plug the usb piece in, I thought "wow, am I going to break the plug". The second thing why this isn't perfect is because the WD easystore is not a plug and play device, meaning you can't plug it into usb any time to access the hard drive, it needs to boot up with the computer, so instead of just plugging it into the usb you have to shutdown the computer, plug it in, start the computer. For some reason I had the impression this was a plug and play and not a boot up device, and this information hadn't been apparent when purchased. speed, I do love the fact of the "sleep"-"standby" so it will wake up when you access it instead of running continuously when not used, but does need to spin up from sleep mode and does take the "8" seconds. As far as the transfer rate, my personal experience is that it is mildly slow for ME, Windows file transfer moves the files at 22MBPS tops, about 1GB per minute (unverified data) so 2-5GB worth of stuff does take 2-5 minutes. This is a great item and I highly recommend it to someone that needs a storage device, it comes preformatted for windows(10) so you can use it right out of the package just copy and paste or cut and paste and drop the files you want directly onto it. size appears larger then actual, it's the size of a normal hard drive with a hard shell around it about 7"x6"x3". Only used on Windows 10, I have read that Mac users need to format before using and have trouble doing so. When you buy this make sure that it is wrapped in cellophane if purchased BRAND NEW!! As a back up I wanted to buy a second 8TB, waited until it was deal of the day at $119.99, but purchased from Best-Buy On ebay (it came sealed with 2 stickers=Used/refurbished), well the best buy customer service told me that the sales through the ebay store is a separate affiliate/entity and they couldn't do anything for me. Great value at only $17.50 per TB, wish I could have kept the second one

Amazing amount of storage and not too big either works for all my game systems.

Bought two of these and returned both. Temperatures during testing reached 62c in a room that is set to 22c with a ceiling fan. One drive failed smart tests using WD Data Lifeguard Tools. Speed tests were consistent using crystal disk mark on one sample around 220MB/s read and 210MB/s write. The other sample was very inconsistent ranging from 75MB/s to 175MB/s and did not come close to the first sample drive. I used crystal disk info to monitor temperatures and smart raw data. I was not comfortable using the drives as backups for my data and returned them.

it is good external hdd. It is cheapest and good qulity and still Red hdd so i will recommend to my friends

Has been amazing using this as my for my movie streaming server and plex. Eventually I’ll be upgrading to a proper NAS system for that.

Open them up to reveal WD Reds... Awesome for NAS. Save alot when it was on sale for $179 so far no issue.
