I'm using it for backing up my computer. The device install was easy. My one challenge is figuring out how to manage space the WD Back up software uses. But that may just be me not taking enough time to study associated documentation. But it's nice to have all my changed files backed up daily without having to do anything but leave the omputer running at the time I selected.

I've been using various sizes of WD drives for backup and transfer functions for years. I trust WD and the quality of their drives. They are super fast for data transfer and are also super quiet when connected to a computer and left on. WD also has great prices on these drives compared to other manufacturers.

I have been using WD external drives for years with minimal problems. This one maintains that reputation. Blazing fast data transfers via USB 3.0, as long as file size doesn't exceed the onboard cache. Some problems with Win 10 'losing' the drive, but that was corrected by connecting the external drive directly to my computer, instead of via my USB hub.

Picked up this external HD on sale as a door-buster and it's a great value. Speeds are decent and the drive is not too noisy. Does the job well.

I have always bought this hard drive and haven't had any complaints yet... In the past, I started with 1 TB. After getting few of the 1 TB ones, I bought 3 TB... but needed more... so when I saw this one go down in price (same as the price i paid for my 3TB couple of years ago :) ), I had to get this..

Excellent drive, great for shucking too

Pros: NO ENCLOSURE-BASED ENCRYPTION, good drive for shucking, very good sequential throughput for 5400 RPM, visually appealing, absurdly good price per GB when on sale. CONS: Non-configurable power save mode in enclosure, drive takes forever to wake from power saving mode, can't run S.M.A.R.T. diags in enclosure because power save mode aborts the diagnostic test, enclosure is a real pain to shuck until you're on your 3rd/4th one and get the hang of it. OTHER COMMENTS: Works great in the enclosure OR shucked, so there's nothing at all to complain about. The /r/DataHoarder subreddit swears by these drives for building bigger storage computers than you'll ever see in your entire lifetime, and that's no accident. The lack of enclosure-based encryption is a huge plus; wish all WDs came like this!

Western Digital drives are definitely my primary options for storage. They are extremely reliable without breaking the bank. Inside this unit you will either find a WD Red or a "white" version, which apparently is a Red with an OEM tag.
