I use it to back up a backup machine, so I have a backup for my backups. The unit runs hotter than I'd like under load. It ran hot under load when I ran a 6TB backup, sure, but even under more standard loads of 100-200GB at a time, it's still pretty hot, so maybe don't go for this guyif you intend to routinely make transfers of in excess of 500GB. But if you're doing that, you should probably look into a dedicated NAS anyway.

Great hard drive for shucking!

Pretty easy to shuck, plenty of youtube videos out there. If you do, the extra pin issue can also be solved with a cheap molex-sata adapter, seems to cut it out without major issue with the small tape or surgery to the drive.

Best part is what's inside

Every one of them so far has had a 256MB Cache WD Red NAS drive inside of it. You cannot beat that for shucking the drive out of the case to put inside a NAS server. Money to be saved for sure in relation to buying WD Red bare drives.
