Does what it says on the tin. I use it to back up a backup machine, so I have a backup for my backups. The unit runs hotter than I'd like under load. It ran hot under load when I ran a 6TB backup, sure, but even under more standard loads of 100-200GB at a time, it's still pretty hot, so maybe don't go for this guyif you intend to routinely make transfers of in excess of 500GB. But if you're doing that, you should probably look into a dedicated NAS anyway.

I love this hard drive, the speed and storage size is wonderful. The fact that they have RED drives inside makes it even better.

I bought a few of these WD external drives to be used as backup drives. I've been very happy so far. I've been using WD "My Book" external drives for about ten (10) years and haven't had any issues. After about 3-4 years I replace them just to avoid keeping them too long and maybe eventually failing. Just a precautionary replacement.

It does a great job storing my files. It is quiet.

Ran out of space on my 4tb hard drive which was also WD. That one has worked flawlessley for years so I got the same one just bigger.

I'm not sure if all external hard drives behave the same way but I have 3 Western Digital that goes to sleep too quickly. Other than that, no issues.

I needed enough space to keep my pictures. I needed to back them up, too. So, I bought two!

Mine had a white label WD inside. Great for use in a NAS! Pretty easy to shuck, plenty of youtube videos out there. If you do, the extra pin issue can also be solved with a cheap molex-sata adapter, seems to cut it out without major issue with the small tape or surgery to the drive.

After doing tons of research online, I decided to purchase two of these drives for my personal media server. After watching a couple videos online, I was able to shuck the drives and put them in a tower. They've been working great since! I got these on sale for almost half of what a WD Red 8TB drive costs at other retailers.

Large capacity, and was on sale - WIN!! So far so good.

I purchased for a sole time machine and LR catalog backup. It is very easy to partition into multiple drives and the transfer speed is better than a USB only external. The best part is that it contains a Western Digital Red HDD inside which cost more than this entire unit if purchased separately! Great for backups,gaming, and steaming.

WD is a quality brand when it comes to data storage. I couldn't believe it was only $150 for 8TB of storage. I actually bought two of them. Being a professional photographer/videographer, it's important to have quality backup drives for your work. I've been using WD drives for over a decade now and I've been very happy with them.

Hard products are different depending on the merchandise. It may be red or white, but it's a really good deal for the price.
