I was amazed at how fast I filled up a 4TB drive so time to upgrade. This 8TB external is just a beast. WD Red under the hood. Just perfect for a 24x7 setup. Getting it on sale, for less than the bare drive, was most excellent!

Needed to back up personal files from a laptop and also my personal desk top computer. Lots of pictures so needed lots of storage. 4TB would have been enough but it was just a few dollars more to get 8TB. Backup software worked fine.

Needed for mass storage of my pictures etc for my genealogy project

I purchased this as a gift and wish I had purchased a dozen. The following week the price shot up by more than $50... I'll wait for the next one.

I'm using this drive to run a Plex server connected to Ubuntu. Drive is adequately fast for streaming HD video. Have been running it pretty hard for a few weeks now and the drive has been solid, no complaints.

I use this for my Plex library and it really works as intended. Really helps me expand my storage and works just as good as any 5400RPM HD should. If you need more space I recommend to wait until this goes on sale.

I have several of these drives. After installing this one and moving nearly 4TB of data onto it, my computer would no longer recognize it. I was able to get it to work long enough on another computer to copy the data back off and return the drive to Best Buy for replacement. The new drive works great, as have all the other WD drives I’ve bought over the years.

I bought this as a birthday gift for my Mom. She needed this to consolidate all her tiny hard drives into one hard drive and this did the trick. Plug and Play and transferring were a charm.

This is a good hard drive if you are looking for a good drive to store your picture/music/documents etc. One thing I did notice was that since I have a MAC, the drive needed to be formatted to work for MACs. There are no instructions for this in the box. Had to look online. The device is capable of it, just have to do a little work to get it set up.

I bought a pair that im using for media storage for my plex server. The USB 3.0 is fast enough to direct stream everything with no hiccups on my tv. Im also using another one for a backup and so far seems to work good.

Got it after black friday. Could not pass on a 8tb drive for $150.

super simple to use and no time consuming setup required. you just plug it in and it works. check to see if your model comes from Thailand. If it does, you're in luck as this is the 256MB cache version which makes it the desirable one.

I bought this device as I wanted to have a high store HDD for the purposes of backing up video games that I have on hand. This device does exactly what it says on tin. Works great.

Plenty of space and at a nice price. A great bargain.

Easy to use and reliable. I use this to back up all my important folders, photos and music. I then put it into my safety deposit box at the bank so I am not in fear of losing any of my important folder as ever.

This is a great drive inside a solid enclosure with excellent performance. I recommend these to all my friends and family for long term storage. I am looking forward to upgrading to the 10TB version in my NAS very soon.
