My only gripe with the drive is that it can get VERY noisy while in use laying horizontally. I helped remedy this with a few squares of adhesive craft foam between the drive and the surface. Other than that, it's business as usual as far as external drives go.

I partitioned the 8TB drive into 2 4TB volumes so that I can use one just for backups and the other for "freeform" storage. It partitioned easily and works like a charm.

Easy to set up and the transfers move fast. I transfered some movies and 3D animations I have been working on and has been working like a champ.

Yes, you can shuck an 8 TB WD Red with a 256 MB cache (see Reddit for model numbers to get larger cache) at this price point. Only downside is shorter warranty. Load up that server!

Bought this after reading positive reviews. This model is exclusive to Best Buy. Most of these reportedly use WD's higher quality line of drives, which is a plus. I am using it with a Mac. One thing I've noticed is that it's a little slower to wake from sleep than my previous WD My Book.

Excellent HD for use in backing up your computer or laptop. Also great for video and photo backups. It is susceptible to power surges which causes it to disconnect, so not good for active dvr recording or temp drive usage (which isn't the norm anyway, but just saying).

Would love to have the cloud capability. .8tb is too huge for my usage

Large capacity with a relatively small footprint. Nice and quiet. Comes with more features than I need at a great price point. Simple plug and play. Minor setup required.

it worked great as soon as I pugged it in and started backing all my pc's . I was a great price and well worth money. recommend to anyone.

Bought this to back up data for several devices. Easy to use and works well. Transfer rate is good but it’s a bit bulky in size. Overall and very happy with the item.

Picked this up for a friend who is a huge stickler for backup devices. He hasn’t said anything negative since I gifted it to him and that means it’s a stellar product.

Just like the old WD mybook that they use to make before they made the new design. I needed the look of the old one. It does have the old characteristics of the old mybook, still a bit noisy.

This WD drive works great, and the 8 TB capacity allows for plenty of space are a Macintosh Time Machine drive (after reformatting, of course). Recommended.

A large amount of space for backup. Don't expect this to be as fast as an SSD but it haves plenty of space to archive stuff. It's easy to tip over and cause a hard drive failure so be careful where you put it.

Purchased this in order to consolidate my entire digital video library onto one device. Works as intended upon setup. Easy peasey. As always WD makes another great product!

Works great with Xbox for all those Game Pass downloads! Wish the flashing light could be turned off even when not being accessed. A little distracting.

I've never had any bad luck with WD. On sale these 8TB drives are hard to beat in terms of price/performance/TB. I've schucked some (WD RED) and kept some as is.
