Over the years I have used quite a few WD external hard disks and have generally been happy. When I saw that Best Buy was selling an 8TB for just $160 I could not resist, especially when reviewers stated that a WD Red drive was in the box. However, to my dismay after installing it and connecting it to my MacBook Pro I found performance sluggish compared to my 4TB My Passport. What really compelled me to return it was when it started cutting in and out for no reason during a long copy session.

It’s great. I wish the usb cable were longer. It’s a special looking connection, so I don’t know if longer options exist.

I bought this to take it apart. This comes with a WD RED NAS drive inside. Paid $160 for a dive that sells for $260 by itself.

This is a great drive for backup storage of photos and videos. The only thing I didn't like is that has two lines (one is for power, the other is USB). If this needs only one line like 1T drive, it will be more convenient.

Our last external storage drive broke, so we bought this as a replacement, and it has worked great so far!

Seagate works for internal storage, but ONLY use WD for external!! I've had so many Seagate drives crap out on me!!!

Bought this for additional memory for music and video files. Works great and has plenty of space for me to grow my collection.

I've always had good luck with Western Digital Hard Drives. So, this huge drive on sale at a good price was a no-brainer.

It does the job OK. I just wish the instructions were more clear concerning the formatting of the drive for the Mac.

I'm happy with this purchase even though the size is substantially less than advertised. I get 7.1 GB of available space.

Bought it because there is a WD RED drive inside, so i removed it and using it in NAS

2nd parity drive for the server. takes just over 24 hours for a parity check. Love my unraid.
