I was looking for additional back-up storage. I purchased the WD easystore 8TB Plug and Play Desktop back-up unit. My Linksys router has the USB port to allow the connection of storage that can then be shared across the network. I attached this drive to the router and set up the shares. This unit can also be used as a Media server. Files and Folders can be password protected. I would recommend this for a solid back-up solution.

This is one of many great products from WD. Easy to use. No need for any apps to download(there optional). Just plug in and it good to use. However it is just a bit expensive.

Needed a large external HD for my PS4. Works like a charm and was about 50% off on a doorbuster.

This item rocks! I use these for my media server for 5 years now just picked up another one while on sale and have no regrets. After setting it up it works as I expected. If you’re looking for an external HDD I recommend WD.

This was a great buy. The price was also something I couldn't pass up. Excellent for photos, music, documents and so much more. I don't have to ever worry about losing my data when its being backed up by such a great product.

I remember paying over $500 for a 64Mb hard drive and now I got this 8Tb drive for under $180. The setup was easy although I had to reformat it to use on my Mac. It runs fast and I'm able to use it as a backup for my other drives connected to my computer. I've never had a bad WD drive but have had many drives from another brand (starts with an S) go bad and I've lost lots of data. WD makes quality equipment at a great price.

WD easystore is doing as advertised making saving 8k photos and everything else easy. I bought a generic ext. HDD online and still cannot access the drive w/ valuable data on it for no reason other than it was a Monday I guess? I never save to the cloud because you never own your own stuff...they charge storage money don't they and if you do not pay they cut off access don't they? Rates will always go up, never down so...Maintain ownership via via HDD then in future when external SSD storage becomes affordable simply copy files over to the new.

This external hard drive works well and is easy to use. Although the first time I brought my computer to Best Buy for them to back it up, they didn't actually do it and the hard drive was empty when I got home. I brought my computer back a second time and that time they actually backed it up.

Some have dissed this external drive based on the heat generated by the drive itself. That may result in shorter lifespan, or it may not. We would all like the hard drives to last forever. None of them will.
For the mean time this is very inexpensive storage. I need the space but only need to have it connected to the computer periodically. It will be a number of years before I know for sure but I suspect it will last at least twice the time of the warranty and probably longer based on how I used it.
In terms of cost per Tb, this is probably one of the, if not the least expensive options.
I have this connected to an older computer on which the formatting of the drive causes an issue with my bios. Before storing it, I reformatted to a compatible format. The format shipped prevents a restart on my computer when the drive is still connected.

USB external hard drives aren't a flashy piece of tech, but their benefits are huge. Personally, I am using this drive on an Xbox Series X for storage of my Xbox One library. I had recently outgrown a 4TB drive and the 1TB internal storage on my One X was maxed out, so 8TB on sale was the next logical jump. Being able to hold your library and GamePass games locally is great. Load times are good, but obviously not as great as SSD.
As a spinning HDD, there will be some drive noise. Mine was sitting on an entertainment cabinet shelf and just having the drive on was noticeable. I then found that if I bore out a hole behind the cabinet and lay the drive on its side on top of some styrofoam tape, the drive noise is all but gone. Obviously, everyone's situation varies, but for me, this was a fairly easy fix.
I also have two of these drives that I've shucked and am using in a RAID configuration in a personal server at home. In that scenario, they are pretty quiet, as they are in a cool basement closet, and have been in use for about a year and a half now.
I can easily recommend these drives to anyone looking for additional space.
