I bought these 2 WD 8tb drives not even thinking they required electric to run. So for my home use and portability they didn’t work for me... I took back both back and got the WD 4TB external drives that connect right to laptop.

good price for 8 tb of space. Never had a WD drive fail.

Nothing special, just need a place to store my animes

I ended up getting three of these drives and returned all three, although BB can not find the second one I sent back. They all run EXTREMELY HOT. I have many other WD external drives, and none of them get nearly this hot. I'm finding that the WD products sold at Best Buy are inferior to those similar (or even nearly identical) ones found from other vendors.

Did not work as planned. The 4GB version plugged in and worked. Unit would not recognize the 8GB version. Disappointing. My problem was not solved but I may be able to use the 8GB unit on something else.

Good value and good capacity, but I couldn’t use it with AirPort Extreme as a backup for my whole system which is all non Apple. Works ok attached to one of my computers in the network, so still worthwhile.

It's an external hard drive. It hasn't been in use long enough to prove if it's a gem or a Lemon. The next thing is "would I recommend it" and the response is how can I with so little time having used it. So no.

I read that this has such a great hard drive in it and maybe it is, but I can't tell when using it. Seems slower than others I have used. It does have a power light on the front so I can tell when it is on and when it is in use.

I have a Windows 7 computer with a Inter I5 processer the computer could not find the back up hard drive and then eventually crashed. Product was returned to the store.

After three months of owning this product, the hard drive stopped working, as I was unable to load any of the information on it. I own a MacBook, and the hard drive always has problems ejecting as well. It is an absolute nightmare to work with, and as a someone who uses this for business it is terribly inefficient to use this product. After taking it into the Geek Squad, they decided to replace the product (I had paid for the 2-year protection plan thankfully, otherwise I would have been stuck with the loss and had to pay for the new device; however, I did have to pay for the geek squad service). The new device had the exact same problem after 2 months. I’ve had my MacBook checked out and there are no issues with it. I’ve also owned a WD Passport hard drive and have had the same problem. Moral of the story is, stay clear of this product if you want your and your clients’ information to be safe, want to avoid a headache, and want to avoid wasting your money.

I ran the short smart test and it passed but failed on the long smart test. I repaired the bad sectors but hopefully this isn't indicative of long term health.

I use a Mac computer. I could not get the hard drive to erase and re-format for Mac. Only when I connected it to a Mac with an older version of the operating system would it allow me to erase and format for Mac. Thank goodness I still had a Mac with an older version of the operating system on it! This will force me to reconsider which external hard drives I purchase in the future.
