I bought two of these drives for two different macs. The drive comes with it's own software to configure. Well, Time Machine on a mac hates this drive because it keeps going to sleep. I used the included software to turn that feature off... THREE TIMES - it still seems to turn on this energy saving feature on its own and start failing again. I avoid Seagate like crazy but I might have to start avoiding WD too.

The item arrived with loose parts or plastic “rattling” inside the device. Clearly, it was damaged or poorly assembled. We never even plugged it in. We have no idea of the quality, ease-of-use, or value of the item. We were never able to find any of those things out.

Do not buy this if you have an Apple computer. Finding formatting instructions is horribly cumbersome and takes way too long. If you upgrade your OSX, you need to reformat the drive- which deletes everything - So if you have an Apple Computer, dont bother with this unit

Make sure to be aware that this will not work with a Mac. There are two versions not matter what the description says

Plugged the drive in the USB port, nothing happened, no application installed. Had to go though WD website to find apps. But then I run "Drive Status Check" in the WD Drive Utilities, I get "SMART Status Failed". Also does not show up in Windows Explorer. Product is dead on arrival

This unit was hard to set up on a mac. It also was very hard to get to connect and its slow to transfer.

Item is overpriced and not so easy to use. BestBuy shiped me an item that someone returned to them before. All scratched and smashed. Bestbuy resells returns as new to customers. Beware !!! Overall I would go with a different brand anyway, WD are not the best to use anyway, slow transfer with micro-usb cable

I should say I discovered it failing and found out that it is past the 2 year warranty period. I should have used the item more to perhaps notice it sooner. I recommend spend a few dollars more for models with higher warranty. WD has externals with 3 year warranty which is what I would go with next.

I unplugged my windows computer. Now this external drive is not mounting again.

After using it for 4 times I started to hear the spinning sound which is not a good indication.

I bought this drive to back up all of my photos. I started to transfer them all over when i heard a noise from the drive and it shut everything off! I had to reboot my computer and everything came back up besides the drive. It would not even see it anymore. I am lucky it didnt harm my Mac.

Obviously I like the extra storage but the drive is too slow especially after standing idle.

Bought this for a Mac. Didn't work. Tried reformat. That also failed. Tried "non speedy reformat" and that took 4 days. When that also failed to make the drive work with a Mac I attempted to return it to Best Buy. Their policy says no return after 15 days. Had I not spent 4 days doing a slow reformat I would have made it. I'm very unhappy.

Had to take it back, it would not work on my MAC even though the salesman said it woud.

This garbage ejects any time it wants to. Don't buy it. You you will lose progress of whatever you are working on that is in the hard drive. It also comes with a crappy usb-c plug that is super fragile. It also needs power which is super inconvenient. Thanks for ripping me off Best Buy.

It kept Windows 10 from working right, what more can I say.

Very sensitive needs to he used with care if not all data will be wiped.

Luckily I had one previous 'error mssg' which is recovered from, but I backed up all of my data. Now I am completely unable to access the drive! Not happy!

Item arrived in good condition Unable to complete a full format. Disk diagnostics does not complete and logs an overheat condition on the drive

No encryption built in, it has the light though, which is better
