I have 2 of these so far and will purchase 2 more in the near future (for harvesting drives). right now these are to back up data stored on my NAS. They are running quiet and cool. if you purchase one of these the first thing you should do is run the included WD diagnostics utility to verify that the drive is in good working order. If it fails the software check or is super noisy take it back and get another one, they should run pretty quietly normally. I have had no problems with either unit so far. this is a good and inexpensive way to save precious photos, videos or other important data.

    Works great! (Less filling?)

Copies up to 150GB/sec for hours-ish at a time between multiple drives. Didn't bother using attached software, I'll do it myself. If you're paranoid, reformat to NTFS or exFAT. (Don't bother with REFS.) Works on Linux too as ext4. (BTRFS? Not for production use, RTFM.) Small power brick, but long -- will cover 2 or 3 outlets. You CAN use a USB 2 cable if necessary (but why?) Shows 7.27TB exFAT after formatting, and not 8.00 -- so if you're one of THOSE, go back using floppies instead. It's NOT impervious, even under warranty -- don't depend on it (or anything) exclusively. You need to have 3 copies of a file (preferably in sync) before you've actually got 1, or effectively you don't have any at all. Don't get what I'm saying? Fill it up with 7TB of files and then drop it on the floor -- you will. Even better on sale!

Fat drive for all the goodies

These WD drives have a good reputation for lasting, but no drive last forever, so always make a backup. This drive is huge, 8TB, holds everything, over 20,000 hours of TV.

Just picked up this 8tb WD for $179 in order to back up my movie collection. Have had great success with the last two WD external hardrives (6 TB and 3 TB) which are both still going strong. Prior to the WD, had Seagates which all failed after a few years,

    Purchased three of these drives

Purchased three of these drives. I purchased two drives and they were both WD RED 8TB 256MB cache drives. The third one I purchased was a WD White label 8tb drive but I returned it because I wanted the red drive. Waited a month and tried a different BestBuy store. The customer rep who helped bring out different WD easystore 8tb drives was great. I was able to find the one that I wanted. These drives are great. I put two of them in my server and the third one I use as a backup drive. If you get the white label drive, its still good however there is a 3.3 pin reset issue you can look on reddit for the WD 8tb easystore. Going to be purchasing 5-6 more. :)

Bought on sale and using a pair to archive my important files and pictures. Prefer these Easystore drives because they are using WD Red/White drrive and don't use encryption.
