Dead out of the box
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Should have gone with my gut. This was replacing another WD product that abruptly died. Seemed like a good deal. Dead out of the box and made my other USB drives drop off the bus.

Wouldn’t Work
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this HD for my iMac. I specifically asked the salesperson if it would work and he said it would. I found out that it did not work and I couldn’t find support to help.

These get way too hot. Forget about continuou use.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ended up getting three of these drives and returned all three, although BB can not find the second one I sent back. They all run EXTREMELY HOT. I have many other WD external drives, and none of them get nearly this hot. I'm finding that the WD products sold at Best Buy are inferior to those similar (or even nearly identical) ones found from other vendors.

Did not work as I wanted it to.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did not work as planned. The 4GB version plugged in and worked. Unit would not recognize the 8GB version. Disappointing. My problem was not solved but I may be able to use the 8GB unit on something else.

Couldn’t use as hoped.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good value and good capacity, but I couldn’t use it with AirPort Extreme as a backup for my whole system which is all non Apple. Works ok attached to one of my computers in the network, so still worthwhile.

External hard drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's an external hard drive. It hasn't been in use long enough to prove if it's a gem or a Lemon. The next thing is "would I recommend it" and the response is how can I with so little time having used it. So no.

OK
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read that this has such a great hard drive in it and maybe it is, but I can't tell when using it. Seems slower than others I have used. It does have a power light on the front so I can tell when it is on and when it is in use.

Never buy this product.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After three months of owning this product, the hard drive stopped working, as I was unable to load any of the information on it. I own a MacBook, and the hard drive always has problems ejecting as well. It is an absolute nightmare to work with, and as a someone who uses this for business it is terribly inefficient to use this product. After taking it into the Geek Squad, they decided to replace the product (I had paid for the 2-year protection plan thankfully, otherwise I would have been stuck with the loss and had to pay for the new device; however, I did have to pay for the geek squad service). The new device had the exact same problem after 2 months. I’ve had my MacBook checked out and there are no issues with it. I’ve also owned a WD Passport hard drive and have had the same problem. Moral of the story is, stay clear of this product if you want your and your clients’ information to be safe, want to avoid a headache, and want to avoid wasting your money.

WD External Hard Drive
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is definitely not easy to use. My old HP external practically set itself up. This WD device is not user friendly.

Realiable drives and great for shucking
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, I am getting good drives (8,10,12 TB) and bought them over the time. I also bought one 8TB from Amazon beside Bestbuy. They are all running great! I took out 3 of them out from the enclosures since if something is going wrong, I couldn't read it anymore when connected directly to sata on my mobo or other external reader. I think it is the matter of block writing format that WD USB enclosure is using. -12 TB I left it out as cold backup for my photography -10 TB as hot backup for my photography. I also put my daily files to the drive. -8 TB as my Linux drive for steam games and software application -8 TB with original enclosure as media files -8 TB unused for now These drives are quite. Good for backup, storing active games installation files, media etc. Whenever I need to edit my photos I move them to my NVME or regular 2.5" SSD and move them back after my edit. The curse of having large raw files from my mirrorless camera, you need large storage. I am planning to buy a 14TB or/and 16TB soon this week. I still have a lot of 500GB,1TB,2TB, 3TB and 4TB drives around from Western Digital, Seagate, Iomega. So far out of 15: -2xSeagate. One 5TB portable I purchased failed spectacularly in just short few month. The 500GB is running great. -2x Iomega. One 1TB failed around 10 years ago. I think one of them is still running but I left it is collecting dust. -The rest of the drives are Western Digital and they are all still running good with only 1/10 which is a 3TB failed after 3 years. Some of them are over 10 years and still running. It is crazy. -The last one I couldn't remember the brand but I gave it away. I wish I am getting red drive but I learned recently WD using SMR for most of the drives I purchased which is a let down. As long as they are not failing I am happy.

Good drive but initial issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ran the short smart test and it passed but failed on the long smart test. I repaired the bad sectors but hopefully this isn't indicative of long term health.

Personal User
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use a Mac computer. I could not get the hard drive to erase and re-format for Mac. Only when I connected it to a Mac with an older version of the operating system would it allow me to erase and format for Mac. Thank goodness I still had a Mac with an older version of the operating system on it! This will force me to reconsider which external hard drives I purchase in the future.
