    WD reliability

Works as WD always does and is as described. The ONLY downside is the speed but that is limited by the USB connection. It is the third of these I’ve got (in different capacities) and would purchase again

    Purchased three of these drives

Purchased three of these drives. I purchased two drives and they were both WD RED 8TB 256MB cache drives. The third one I purchased was a WD White label 8tb drive but I returned it because I wanted the red drive. Waited a month and tried a different BestBuy store. The customer rep who helped bring out different WD easystore 8tb drives was great. I was able to find the one that I wanted. These drives are great. I put two of them in my server and the third one I use as a backup drive. If you get the white label drive, its still good however there is a 3.3 pin reset issue you can look on reddit for the WD 8tb easystore. Going to be purchasing 5-6 more. :)

It took me less than five minutes to connect and begin transferring files to this drive, I would recommend it to anyone as a local storage device for text, music and video files.

    Poor backup capabilities

    Posted .

The Drive is good, but the software with it is terrible. I bought the drive for backup purposes. The WD software for backup that comes with the drive doesn't recognize the drive while it does see the other smaller HDs. The software that the WD help desk directs you to is more for making mirror images but will perform backups. It performed the task so-so but the software effected the running of my computer and slowed down all operations even when it wasn't making backups and it was not scheduled to backup. Bottom line drive okay as long as you don't need it for backup with WD software.

Amazing drive and great deal before price doubled

I have 3 of these drives and I love them. They are so far very reliable and very fast. I was going to order two more today, I added them to my cart yesterday, and apparently Best Buy has since doubled the price to three hundred bucks. So much for that. Unfortunately I'll have to find something to get instead. If you can get this drive for a hundred sixty bucks like it was before, I'd jump on it if I were you, they are worth every penny.

    Large capacity external HD

Why do you need an 8TB hard drive? Why not? Files are huge these days, and having a huge drive for storage or backup is great. This one has worked without issues for 4 years now. Sometimes it does get loud but that’s normal for a spinning drive. If you want speed go with an external SSD.

    Noisey, Intellipark 8 seconds

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

According to WD, The 8TB or greater are noisy during seeks. And yes they are annoyingly noisy. They also have Intellipark on and set to 8s, it can not be changed (even with their older tools). This causes the heads to park all the time and causes the load/unload cycle to spike in normal operation. This will cause the drive to fail early as it only has a limited load/unload cycle limit, and also poor performance as you need to wait for the disk to spin-up constantly. WD recommendation to me was to buy one of their other drives, this is only meant for occasional storage on an operating systems / applications that do not read or write to the drive often. WD does not disclose the park feature anywhere except via technical support email system. They took 12 days to respond via their technical support email system, this coupled with Best Buys extremely short return policy of 14 days, makes these non-returnable for me.

I bought this drive after checking several reviews that it had red drive inside. My did not came with red drive. Its a simple white lable. The drive still shows 256mb cache, so it's probably a good drive.

Best 8TB drive on the market

I'm very happy with my purchase. This product has 8TB WD Red drive inside, which is known to be great quality and NAS-ready. I got the drive manufactured in Thailand, it has 256MB cache, better than the older model with 128MB cache. It's a bit noisy when spinning up, but it doesn't bother me.

WD are highly reliable drives. I use them for my externals and NAS Storage systems. I have in the past used Seagate and others and have had problems. I must protect my data I am a wedding photographer and the photos are vital for my clients and cannot be replaced. WD has been reliable 100%
