As a rule, I only but WD drives for internal and external use. This drive is high quality, well built and stays in line with WDs proven track record of quality and reliability.

I do a lot of video editing with 4K footage and photography so needed a fast and reliable unit at a good price point. This product offers all of that. Can't beat it.

Does what i want it to do

Setting backups was simple. I am using the drive as an archive (actual backup) which will be used in emergencies. If you want this to store and stream videos etch, then this is not for you. I would suggest an actual SAN solution. If you just want a backup system then I would recommend this.

If you're lucky you might get one with a RED drive in it. This is a great deal if gotten on a sale.

After 4 or 5 data transfers, it stops recognizing the files (both stored and new transfers), and I need to restart the computer. Fine for PC, but a pain with Mac.

Has a nice outer case with lots of vent holes to help with convection Cooling.
