This is a very good drive to have. You can keep all your files and everything else on one drive with space to spare. Lots of room to keep it all and at a very good price can’t be beat.

As a photographer I save many raw images and jpeg files. I archive EVERYTHING never knowing when I might need that one special image. With 8TB there is plenty of room for all my files.

Western Digital drives have always been reliable for me. Plug and play. I would recommend using the WD drive utilities software to remove the built-in sleep timer if you are doing long transfers. A good value. I recommend it and would purchase again.

I purchased this model after looking for a few weeks at different brands and sizes. I noticed that it was a Doorbuster item this month for December and decided to take the plunge. For the $99 I spent plus tax, I couldn’t be happier. Fast, reliable and quiet. 8TB of space is more than I need. I use this for my MacBook Pro 2017 model and it works flawlessly with Time Machine. Only gripe I have, but nothing I am really complaining about simply because of the price I paid, would be that it’s a disk drive; would rather have had a Solid State Drive for speedier service. Hands down a great value and would recommend to anyone if this fits their needs.

Overall Review: Bought two 10 gig on sale to build a poor man's RAID1. I'm a recording engineer and I need to backup my WAV files. (You'd be surprised how often I get the "do you still have that recording you made for me 4 years ago" call) I didn't want any hardware encryption ala the My Book Duo and its associated horror stories, just backup. Zip tied two of these together, and use FastCopy to move the files.Since these have no built-in fans, the drives run a little warm. It's probably OK, but my OC nature was looking for reassurance. So with more zip ties, I added a 80mm fan on top of the two enclosures. I used a magnetic bearing fan that runs super quiet (as a recording engineer, I hate loud fans). Wanting to get the fan away from the drives, I zipped the fan on top of a "chimney". (Zip ties: the engineer's duct tape.) Probably not necessary, but remember I'm Mr. OC. The fan runs || with one enclosure's power supply. Looks janky but works great: cool, quiet, cheap. Now I'm just hoping both drives don't die at the same time.

The performance of this drive is pretty good, I purchased this to use as a Steam games drive in my computer, but it can also be used with the Xbox One, PS4, or any other game console that supports USB storage. If you don't mind opening it up, you'll find a regular 3.5" desktop SATA drive with performance similar to the WD RED line of drives, you may even find a WD RED inside depending on how old the stock is.

I've been using this drive for a little while. It was on sale when I bought it. So the price was great for the storage size. But compare to three other external drives that I own, this one runs hot after about 20 minutes of use. So I unplug it after two or three hours using it. I don't know if this is normal for this type of drives which has plastic cover. My other drives with a different brand have metal cover which conducts heat better I believe. So far so good. I hope it lasts long so I don't lose files I saved in this drive. Time will tell.

these are essentially WD RED drives....cheapest way to getWD NAS REDS...i own 20 of them atleast never had one issue...i take the drives out of the enclosure and put them right into my server no issues people have reported using them exernal (taking the drive out of the enclosure) have issues and you may need a molex to sata converter (google 3.3v issue) but my servers pick them up just fine
