Overall Review: Bought two 10 gig on sale to build a poor man's RAID1. I'm a recording engineer and I need to backup my WAV files. (You'd be surprised how often I get the "do you still have that recording you made for me 4 years ago" call) I didn't want any hardware encryption ala the My Book Duo and its associated horror stories, just backup. Zip tied two of these together, and use FastCopy to move the files.Since these have no built-in fans, the drives run a little warm. It's probably OK, but my OC nature was looking for reassurance. So with more zip ties, I added a 80mm fan on top of the two enclosures. I used a magnetic bearing fan that runs super quiet (as a recording engineer, I hate loud fans). Wanting to get the fan away from the drives, I zipped the fan on top of a "chimney". (Zip ties: the engineer's duct tape.) Probably not necessary, but remember I'm Mr. OC. The fan runs || with one enclosure's power supply. Looks janky but works great: cool, quiet, cheap. Now I'm just hoping both drives don't die at the same time.

Eliminate all the thump drives and other portable hard drives, one device for all your downloads, data, photos, music. Movies, DVD rip and so on. Good buy for the money
I believe it’s worth it to be able to have everything in one place, without searching for what you need.
I recommend this product for anyone looking for a way to deciliter and clean up their hard drive without using the cloud.

What can I say? It is a hard drive and it holds all of my files. It hasn’t died yet and for that I am grateful.

Western Digital drives have always been reliable for me. Plug and play. I would recommend using the WD drive utilities software to remove the built-in sleep timer if you are doing long transfers. A good value. I recommend it and would purchase again.

Easy setup and now I can backup all my files from three computers and still have plenty of storage space. It's not loud but it can get hot over time. I keep it at the floor next to a small portable fan to keep it a lot cooler and so far no issues. The sale price was the same as the 5 TB so it's a no brainer to go with the 8 TB. Worth it if on sale.

Performs well for a USB 3 external housing a 5400 or 5900 rpm drive. I have a couple WD My Book external 4TB USB 3s which run 7200 rpm drives, and I'm getting similar write speeds to those. The Easy Store is getting 85-100 MB/sec write. Haven't tested the read speed yet, but I imagine if the writes are comparable, the reads will do just as well. I knocked off a star because it comes with nearly a half a GB of software which I'll never use for my needs and will probably delete eventually, and also because the drive doesn't easily "safely remove" from Windows. Takes some fiddling to get that aspect to cooperate. Overall 8TB for the price was great.

I only use this for my data backup process and raw photos. Connected via usb, it does the job nicely. I don't notice any lag time in processing, so the 7200 bpm is doing the job.

Working great as additional storage for my NAS. I shucked the drive and have been using it without any problems since I bought it.

If you watch, these will periodically go on sale for abound $150. You can crack the case open (search Youtube for "shucking wd drive") and then you'll have a shiny, new 8TB drive. This is the same 8TB drive that Western Digital sells as an internal drive, usually for $250. So if you're populating a NAS box and need 4-6 drives, this is the way to do it.
Cracking open the case will void your warranty. Be aware.

Simply put, this is a great huge capacity drive. Sure, it isn't quite for everyone, but you know if you're someone that needs this much storage space. And, for the cost, this drive is quite good.
As others have mentioned in their reviews, this particular model have been known to pack some well reviewed drives inside. So if you need a good performance storage solution, then this definitely comes recommended.

No more shuffling wads of files between smaller USB drives. Everything has its own home now on one drive. Been using this for about 6 months now. No issues. Works great. I have backed up tons of stuff to it without any issues. Easy to set up and get using. I use this on my Win 10 desktop. I even do my routine backups to this drive. Was definitely worth it.

This was a great deal on this 8TB drive. It was ordered online and arrived 2 days later. Plugged in, it spins and reads and writes data. Just exactly what the doctor ordered!
