Needed the extra space and the price was great on Black Friday. I've had a computer crash and lost all my info so only use externals to store info now to prevent that.

I've owned many external hard drives over the years. While any company can make the occasional bad unit (or develop a problematic product line), I've found Western Digital drives to be quite reliable. This one sports excellent speed and massive storage, which is perfect for backing up all of my digital content while providing plenty of room for future growth. All in all, I'm loving this drive!

Bought two for use with a small media server that cannot fit 3.5" HDDs. Both have been setup in a Windows Storage Pool and on 24/7 for over a month now. Zero problems.

Picked this up on Christmas Holiday Sale Priced. Not sure how you could beat the price for 8TB. Back-up software is simple and the same for the small 2TB to the 8TB..

I've purchased several of the Easystore drives over the past few years for archival and online storage. All of them have performed flawlessly with no errors or problems, and my oldest one still in service is over 2 years old. I never use included software (I always start new drives out with a full read/write error check and a reformat) so if there is any software included I can't attest to its usefulness or lack thereof - sorry. However, they function just fine as "normal drives" and you can add your own encryption software as desired. It might also be useful to know that these drives do not use any "hardware encryption" - if the enclosure ever becomes damaged, it is possible to simply remove the drive and install it into another enclosure in order to recover the data. Some WD and Seagate models do "on-chip" encryption in the enclosure, rendering the drive's data useless if the enclosure ever fails - this drive does NOT exhibit that behavior, which may be desirable to some buyers. For those curious, these drives use the helium-filled design that WD acquired from HGST. Most often you'll find a "white-label" (EMAZ/EZEZ) drive, but sometimes they will contain a "red-label" (EFAX) drive. There's no practical difference in performance between the drive models however.

Reasonably fast, reliable, doesn't produce too much heat and easy to setup.

The WD EasyStore 8TB external hard drive is a must for anyone with any kind of computer. Most hard drives on desktop and laptops have a max capacity of 1-2 TB. With the Easystore, backing up data is a breeze, recalling files is simple, and clearing out a hard drive that is near capacity will increase the efficiency of the computer itself.

I have this as my main hard drive for my PC. I also get another one to use as a back up of this one. Love WD. Def my choice

Works well, currently running and a NAS media drive.

I've been encoding my entire BD and DVD library for months. Had to upgrade storage space. Tons on this drive. Formatted as xFat so I could use with both mac and Pc.

I have a few of these devices and they work as they should. Good value for the price when compared to other offerings.

Excellent Drive and very reliable. This is my 3rd one and all are going very strong. It is also very fast for a regular HDD.

This is an excellent hard drive, huge capacity and great speed. I have it attached to a QNAP NAS and when not in use it goes into sleep mode. Will buy another soon.

Purchased this item during a sale, which makes the price per GB a great deal. I wanted to store my videos and be able to watch it on my phone. However, a NAS is required for this. I noticed that my router allows one to plugin a USB device and share the contents of that USB on the network. I had this item purchased before I checked if this was compatible w/ the router. And I was disappointed that it wasn't, and online sources say that the router only supports up to 3TB at most. Yet I was hopeful, so I transferred one file onto the hard drive and plugged it in on the router, and it worked! I was able to watch the video through the router! My TV, my phone, my other computer, all of them can access the external hard drive now. (W/ a big performance hit, though nothing to be surprised as the router isn't supposed to replace a NAS anyway) Overall, am really happy w/ the purchase, hopefully it'll last long while plugged in on the router.
