This was purchased as a replacement to a 6TB WD external drive that I use as a Time Machine for my Mac. After two years on that old unit, it started to give me trouble -- finally, six months later, it died. I don't like spending money on what is, essentially, a 2-year lease for a hard drive, but I have to have a backup. Let's hope the last one was a fluke and this one works out for a few more years.

WD is my favorite HD mfger. Reliable and dead simple to set up. I didn't read any reviews on this purchase because a friend tipped me off to these drives and had already done the leg work. Best Buy shipped and delivered as promised and drive is working great!

8TB Western Digital Red NAS for half the price of a bare drive. Can't beat that.

Installed quickly, has enough capacity to hold the 7 terabytes on my computer.

I had the older 3tb model which worked great for years, but after I bought a fourth hard drive, I needed to increase my backup space to something above 6tb. This was the perfect choice! It's really much smaller than it looks. The only negative is that it's not USB-powered, and has to be plugged into the wall, but that's to be expected with something powerful like this. Some people say that it's loud, but I honestly don't hear it. Probably because it's sitting at the end of my desk, right next to the PC tower. It doesn't include its own backup software, which the earlier model did (and it wasn't good). I personally recommend AOMEI Backupper, as it's much faster with more options than many others, and the free version works perfectly. Always keep your data backed up!

For the price this is a great hard drive for storage and it's also pretty fast.

This 8T drive is great for backing up system, application, and personal files.

I bought this HDD after reading several reviews stating that it has a WD Red drive inside, and it does. At $180 it is a huge deal. The drive can get pretty warm since it uses passive cooling, but I'm not too worried about it since I will be using it to perform a once a month backup from my NAS and then I will store it offsite until the next month. I highly recommend this drive.
