Purchased unit for backups. Plugged in and works as designed.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my son and can report hes using it with alot of space on his computer now so its a win!!!

I LOVE THIS WD EXTERNAL HD THIS IS MY 4TH ONE OVER THE YEARS

I had my own business doing contracting work for other attorneys. This meant I had to ensure two things. First, I never mixed the work-product and confidential documents of one client with those of another, and second, that I did not lose them. I used a laptop for my day to day running around meeting people, doing research, and other work. I used this hard drive as a backup so that I always had everything safely backed up safely at home, both on my home desktop and also on the hard drive. I never lost a document that I was responsible for and I never lost the massive amount of research I had done and would have hated having to redo.

I remember when researching this hard drive that there was a forum where users were saying that by looking at the serial number, you could tell where the hard drive was manufactured. Not something that matters to me usually, but the people on the site claimed that one country had a faster tech, and the other has a slower. So, when I went to Best Buy, I was literally reading serial numbers and found both types. In all honesty, I probably would not have been able to tell the difference, but it is always nice to have better/more upgraded tech. The hard drive is awesome. Super reliable and has been a workhorse. But I still recommending putting the part number on Google and reading more about it.

This is a life saver a must have . I just wish you was able to view files from the cloud.

This drive is amazingly large, easy to set up and use, and fast even over a USB connection. You can back up absolutely everything you have data-wise on this and still have room left over. Highly recommended!

This drive goes on sale quite often and is a good deal in terms of $/GB. Works for my purposes as a backup drive. It's Best Buys version of the WD mybook, they're essentially the same thing. Based on my serial number it has a WD white drive inside of it. Can be used for Network Attached Storage too if your router has a USB port on it.
