So I needed a external HDD to store some pictures and other documents that was clogging my SSD drive up. I see this baby with 8TB of disk space and think "why not?" I unboxed it, plugged it into power, plugged the USB cable into the HDD and the other in to my USB 3.0 slot (make sure you plug it into the blue USB slot to get the full speed of USB 3.0). No mess, no fuss, it was off to the races. Took about 20 minutes to move a TB of info from my SSD to the USB, but some of the files were rather large. I found it faster moving the same amount of space, but with smaller files. Anyway so far so good.

I have been blown away by the gigantic capacity and easy use of the WD 8TB external hard drive. It's like having your own server with capacity I can't imagine ever using up!

Upgraded to a larger hard drive, when a older one began to fail and was able to retrieve the data files and move to the new WD external USB with ease.

I own two of these. I don't know how they work as external drives since I took them out of their enclosures to use in a server. As far as drive quality though, I've had no problems. Good price per terabyte.

This came as a WD White Drive (Red with white label) for a lot less $$ than a WD Red from anywhere else. I've purchased about a dozen of these and none have had any issues!

This drive which I got for the storage capabilities is phenomenal. The interface is simple, read/write is quick, the system is very responsive and with 8TB, plenty of storage for my movies and such. The internal drive alone is worth more than I paid for the entire unit. Awesome!

Western digital makes the most reliable hard drive. I will only use Western digital for critical applications. This unit was easy to install as an 8 TB drive.

Paid like $125 for it. Fair priced. I've seen some other 8tb hardrives go for alot more. Real simple to use. Plugged into ps4 and the ps4 asked to format external drive and I said ok. Easy as that. Took like 2 minutes.

I bought this product on Black Friday of this year for $169.99. It’s great for storing my digital media collection of about 5TB but I was intending to use it for a media hub on my Xbox One. For some reason, the device stops reading files on the drive on the console. They’re on the drive, but the Xbox One does not recognize them. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the console or the product itself, but it is a letdown.
