Great for backup. If you have lots of GoPro footage (that takes up a lot of room), this drive provides enormous backup space and it's so affordable! Western Digital which makes it more reliable than most, means I can save important files without worrying about running out of room on my laptop.

Purchased it to backup my PCs and am very happy with the quality and capacity of this drive. It's truly plug and play, no need for configuration. It's fast and quiet. I highly recommend it.

I bought this on sale with the intention to store my downloaded games, purchasing an NVME or SATA is way to expensive for the amount of storage a Hard Drive would offer. I am pleased with this purchase! Games load in fast and i dont have to worry about storage ever again, i have about 60 games installed and downloded over 200 game mods, I still have about 85% of storage left. With video games storage increasing over time, consider getting a separate storage device specifically for storing games and game mods.

I like the glossy, smooth look of the WD easystore 8TB external hard drives more than the WD Passport version. The price was better too for what I thought would have been the same quality. They measure approximately 6.5” H x 2” W x 5.5” D so are about the size of a small, thick book. They are bigger than a portable hard drive and must be connected to an electrical outlet to power it, unlike the smaller My Passport which is USB powered. I like the capacity and the price per TB is much better than a typical portable hard drive. The Bad I have connected the drive to an electrical outlet and it has failed to power on. I made sure the cord was firmly seated in the drive and in the wall outlet but it didn’t power on. I tried unplugging it and plugging it in again a few times and sometimes it powers on. This is disconcerting! I’ve never had this issue with a Western Digital Passport. I wonder if the Best Buy easystore versions are made to the same quality standards.

Switched exclusively to buying WD about 15 years ago and enjoy many of their different lines of drives for various purposes (external, secondary desktop, DVR, Security system, game systems, drive toaster use, etc.. in Green, Blue, Black, now Red with this one) Never been disappointed. This product is no exception. Very quiet, and well performing over USB3 after doing multiple tests with Crystal DiskMark and HDTune. I ran it through a 2 week burn-in (bit pattern erase + verify + media scan) with no errors and no loss in performance or early failure errors. Now moved a lot of backups from smaller high GB to low TB drives over to it.

Great external hard drive. USB 3.0 on windows 10 gives me speeds of an average of 100Mbps write while simultaneously hosting all my media files and being streamed by plex to multiple devices. I would HIGHLY recommend this hard drive to anyone looking for fast dependable storage.

I picked up this drive because of several other reviews. I picked it up on sale and for price/TB, it's a great deal! I've been copying data to it and it's practically silent. I will eventually take advantage of the WD Red drive inside, but for now I'm happy with this purchase!

I purchased the 8TB WD drive as a second back up for my photographs and video, which require much storage space. I prefer smaller 4TB drives, because if the drive goes down, you can lose a great many files with a larger drive, but this is a second back up, so I took a chance on the larger 8TB so that it would hold more. It is performing well thus far, as expected. I have many WD drives in use, and I have only had one go bad.

I bought this to use as a backup drive for my WD NAS. It was the right size at the right price on sale. Some reviews mentioned it gets hot, this made me wary, but I also have it in a fairly open air space and use a fan throughout the year so it will benefit from that keeping it cool. I haven't really check the temp as of yet. If I feel it's remaining warmer than I would like it to be, I will turn it off and only put it on when running a backup. Time will tell if it holds up or fails but, so far so good.

I already know WD Easystore, and it is a reliable hard drive. Four years ago, I bought one of eight 8TB for all my photos and have had no issues. Now, this new 8TB drive will back up all my videos and music files. Great product.

I'm a digital hoarder and can never have enough hard drive space. I’ll fill this up pretty quickly, but 8TB is a lot of space for most people, and it's nice to be able to add more capacity when the opportunity arises. Currently on "sale" for half price makes for a nice deal for the size being offered. The drive runs quite hot when you task it over longer periods, and it's moderately noisy, but I've seen and heard worse. Speeds are decent enough, but this will vary depending on what you're trying to do with it, which is typical of any drive. I don't hear the periodic clicking sound other reviewers have mentioned, and hard drives are NOT supposed to do that, so if you get one that does this, I'd return it, and others, as many times as needed until you get one that doesn't do this. The fact that some people are being told this sound is "normal" is laughable, although I suppose that depends on what your definition of normal is...I can only guess so that many of these drives were produced that had this defect, that it's considered the norm for its production; hence, it's "normal". Would I trust a hot running drive that makes clicking noises on a regular basis as my primary drive ...Absolutely Not!...And, only the future will tell if stands the test of time. But, I've had good success for the most part with WD drives in the past, and if you're just looking for a backup drive and/or extra storage space for relatively non-essential data such as games & movies, it's hard to find a size/price package that would be a better deal than this at this time. I do suggest making an effort to get some air moving in and around this drive however to help keep the temp down some.

I ordered two of these hard drives. They have both worked great so far. I recently digitized all of my movies and TV shows that I had on disc and loaded all of my content onto them. I connected one directly to my TV and watch all of my content on it. The other serves as a backup hard drive. They are both relatively fast and responsive and they both serve my purpose very well. The first one I ordered had a faulty cable. My computer would not recognize the hard drive when I had it plugged into a USB 3.0 port. My computer would recognize it when I had it plugged into a USB 2.0. I did not want to deal with the return process so I went ahead and ordered a new cable. After we ring the new cable everything worked great. These hard drives run hot. Depending on how hard I'm working the drive it can get up to 60 degrees Celsius. These hard drives also run a little loud. I have a Western digital two terabyte green label hard drive that I bought years ago that runs much quieter. I would recommend these hard drives to anyone who needs a lot of storage or plans to digitalize all of their content as I did.

Excellent accessory with my PS5. I can store all of my PS4 games to it and not have to switch between consoles. It not to loud and the PS5 seems to access the data from the drive rather quickly.

First off. The drives inside are WD Reds. If you don't know the significance of that, then stop reading, these drives aren't for you. If you do know what that means, you know that you're getting a $300 + drive for <200$. These drives work great in NASes ( what they're build for), and last years. I had 12x4TB reds in my NAS before (RAIDZ2), now I've got 12x8TB in RAIDZ2, with another 12 planned over the next 2-3 years. (In case you're wondering, I'm using 6 drives per vdev). Don't let the 5400rpm get you down, with 6 of these in a raidz2 vdev, I can easily push 600 MB + of traffic to these. when migrating my current NAS to the new NAS, I did a transfer using NFS over 10Gb, and was able to easily push half of that. NFS probably could've been tuned, and I was NOT using jumbo frames. Either way, you get a fantastic value for whatever price you pay for these, they'll last years.
