I bought a 2TB portable set up for Mac, which worked right out of the box, but since this specific 8TB is a product for Mac OR Microsoft, it wasn’t preset for Mac. I have no issues with the product, just had an extra 30-60 minutes of trying to find what was needed to properly change the settings to work with my Mac. A little googling worked, but wish WD had better instructions and an easier / clearer manual/faq section. Overall, great buy !

Not easy to reformat for Mac.

I tried to reformat it for Mac and I couldn't. There's no instructions in the box explaining that. I went to the website and did everything it told me to and it still didn't reformat. It ended up being a good thing since I've had to go back and forth recently between my Mac and PC laptop. I bought this as a backup drive since my other one is getting old and so far it's handling it's purpose.

Good backup drive.

It has enough space and more to backup all your family pictures. There is no built in software to backup seamlessly. I don't recommend leave the external hdd plugged in as it stress the hard drives.
