The size of the drive and the price I paid make this a crazy deal. Add the fact that I have yet to have any serious issues with Western Digital drives, instant purchase.

Great buy for the price. It was easy to set up, and easy to use. I think the AC power is the only thing they should do away with. If it is supposedly portable; Why isn't it just a plug and play without having to seek a outlet??? This would be a total "Best BUy" if you didn't need an outlet, but I gave it 5 stars anyway.

Pros: 8TB is plenty of space for backup storage. The drive is quiet and doesn't take much desk space. This drive requires a separate power connection unlike some external drives which are powered through the USB cable. Cons: The included USB cable is fairly short (only about 3 foot long). The hard drive speed (5400rpm) causes it to take some time to store a large file.

Really pleased with this external HDD. It's fast, quiet, and comes with a decent warranty. Not to mention, it's cheap for 8TB (and a high quality drive inside).

Wonderfully fast and reliable drives. Perfect for holding a ton of games on a console or being used in a file server with a quick shuck. If anything the only complaint would be that they do get a little toasty in the enclosure, especially if you're hitting them pretty hard for extended periods of time.

Assuming you don’t want a wireless backup hard drive, this is the best bang for the buck. We almost bought the 14 TB version, until we realized that oddly enough, two of these (8 TB) combined were about $20 less than than a single 14 TB. This is counter-intuitive, as that means I’m getting 16 TB for less, and usually the bigger package is the cheaper one, but not this time. Onto the actual hard drive: no complaints. It’s super easy to use. It does what we want it to. It does its job.

I have lost everything in my computer in the past and I did want to pay for more cloud storage. I consulted with my brother that one of the geeks at Best Buy. And we decided this would work for what I wanted. And it has. I have my music, pictures spreadsheets and back on this drive and there is still more room. it is compact and if I didnt tell you it was there, you wouldn't know

Simple install, just make sure to allow all permissions when doing the install or you will get stuck at 80% for eternity If you dont allow permissions and you do get stuck on the 80% windows key R and type the command appwiz.cpl amd look for the application. Click delete and reinstall with permissions

    Perfect TiVo upgrade

I purchased this on sale at a steal of a price to upgrade the 1 TB drive in our TiVo Roamio OTA because these have a WD Red drives inside. In doing so I voided two warranties at once, but totally worth it! Once I tested that the WD drive was functioning properly, I shucked the drive by using a set of spludgers designed for opening electronics, there are 3 clips on each side once you have something in those spots to keep the clips from engaging, the drive slides out very easily, I can't even tell I opened it. Take the 1 screw out of the back of the TiVo, pop the lid, remove the 4 screws that hold the drive in, then the 4 screws that hold the rails on. Replace the drive, power up the TiVo and wait for it to get to the setup screen. This takes about 5 to 10 minutes because the TiVo is formatting the drive during the startup process, I didn't time it so it may be longer, maybe shorter, be patient. Shut the TiVo down, take the drive back out, connect it to your computer via the USB circuit board that came out of the drive case, then use MSFRTools 3.2 or later to expand the drive so the TiVo sees all 8 TB, this is called "blessing" the drive. Reinstall the new drive, button up the TiVo case, complete the setup on the TiVo and you are done! Total time if you don't mess up, about 45 minutes until the TiVo is back up and running. Extremely easy and cheap way to get 8x the space on your TiVo. You will loose all recordings and OnePasses doing this, I had none because I was anticipating this upgrade so we did not schedule anything to record. If you want to keep your recordings, you can either copy the recordings to your PC or another TiVo or clone the drive. You are limited to a 4 TB drive when cloning as this is the largest drive the cloning utility can handle but you don't lose any recordings or OnePasses you have setup. I did the clone method on our first TiVo. The clone process takes a bit longer and will require that the drives be connected to a PC and that you have a boot drive for the utility. Takes about 2 hours, but totally worth it as well.
