I bought a handful of these for a NAS at different locations in December 2017 - January 2018. None of these were identified as Red drives as other reviewers suggested. However, they do run quiet and run fairly cool nonetheless. Buy when they are on sale.

This external drive is awesome. So much storage at an affordable price. These WD external drives are a good value if you catch them on a deal of the day.

I was looking for the external storage for a better price, this one i got a very good deal with lots of storage space.

Good deal for such a drive for 149.99, but I cannot see if it's really a red drive without open it out. Ppl say some of them may come with white labels.

Purchased this item for a back up of my other units....it is an 8 T unit....should hold most, if not all, of my backups. Comes with its own software as well.

I have only had this for a few weeks but I am satisfied with its performance. I have not noticed any lost data yet.

I added this drive to my new computer as a backup external drive and it is perfect! It was so easy to install - highly recommend it!

Most of my external hard drive units are WD, and so far they have all be reliable. I loaded this one up, it was as quick as could be expected.

I love the WD drives. I haven't had any loss data on one yet as oppose to Seagate

The ones I bought were made in Thailand and had the 8TB Red series drives in them. One of the best drives series you can get. Very fast and reliable so far.

Not a bad drive. Fast transfer speeds for what you need. Only thing is, it doesn't have password protection so it had to go back. Bought WD My Book.

Bought two of these when they were on sale a few weeks back. Have been running 24/7 solid since then. No issues. Only time will tell how reliable they are.

Purchased it for 189, opened it up to pull out the western digital red. Everything is working great and ended up getting a 300 dollar drive at a cheap price.

This is a great buy for backing up non-essential stuff. It's pretty fast and way cheaper than a lot of other options because it's always on sale.

I shucked the drive and put it inside my computer. It holds all of my files. Replaced several drives that were failing. Very good and reliable so far.

Thought of it as a good deal but realized the product is heavy and not probable.

This is the second external hard drive I have purchased from Best Buy to supplement my first. No complaints.

I wouldn't consider myself a power user but I just needed a large capacity hard drive to store movies and this fit the bill. With media going 4k, files are larger than ever so to get 8tb for $160 is an incredible bargain. I've spent a considerable amount of time modifying my home theater setup so every component is as quiet as possible. Who wants to hear equipment whirling while watching movies? This hard drive is dead silent and barely gets hot even after prolonged use. I am considering buying another...one thing you can't have enough of is hard drive space.
